Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of inulin supplementation on liver parameters in alcohol use disorder (AUD) patients. The results showed that, at the end of the study, AST, ALT, and IL-18 levels were significantly higher in the inulin group compared to the placebo group in the whole sample. In the subgroup with early alcohol-associated liver disease, inulin supplementation led to specific changes in the gut microbiota, but AST and ALT levels were still higher compared to the placebo group. The treatment was well tolerated without important adverse events or side effects.

Summary: This study aimed to clarify the characteristics and prognostic factors of patients with allograft liver failure awaiting deceased donor liver transplantation in Japan. It was found that recurrent HCV and PSC were major causes of allograft liver failure, and additional factors such as age, CTP score, MELD score, ALT levels, and causes of allograft failure were identified as independent risk factors associated with waitlist mortality.

Summary: Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a significant concern in organ transplantation, but ischemia-free organ transplantation may provide a solution by avoiding IRI and improving outcomes.

Summary: Previous research suggests that retraining the automatic tendency to approach alcohol can be effective in reducing problematic alcohol use. However, this study found that adding an online approach bias modification to outpatient treatment did not significantly reduce alcohol intake or other related outcomes. The lack of significant effects may be due to treatment goals and severity of alcohol use disorder.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of taurine supplementation on post-liver transplantation delirium. The results showed that taurine can significantly reduce the incidence of post-transplant delirium. Receiving placebo and longer stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) were identified as independent risk factors.

Summary: The study suggests that left rTMS + C1 group has the best treatment effect for alcohol dependent patients, while the sham rTMS + C0 group had a significantly higher relapse rate compared to other groups.

Summary: The study compared a 1-year SMS intervention with treatment as usual for alcohol-dependent patients after detoxification. Results showed the SMS intervention group had a lower rate of heavy drinking compared to the TAU-only group. The 12-month SMS intervention helped reduce heavy drinking in routine care among adults with alcohol dependence.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a step guided multicomponent interprofessional intervention program on adherence to immunosuppressive medication in kidney or liver transplant recipients. The results showed that the intervention group could compensate higher CV% of Tacrolimus after transplantation in individuals with lower levels of personality functioning and non-adherence.

Summary: The survey of hepatology and gastroenterology providers showed high rates of alcohol screening and referrals for behavioral therapy, but low rates of prescribing AUD pharmacotherapy due to knowledge gaps from insufficient education. Further studies are needed to improve provider alignment with best practices for treating patients with AUD and ALD.

Summary: This study aimed to test whether adding an open-ended internet-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (iCBT) program to treatment-as-usual (TAU) is more effective than TAU-only for alcohol-dependent patients in primary care. The results showed no significant difference in weekly alcohol consumption between the iCBT+TAU and TAU groups in the intention-to-treat analysis, but in the per-protocol analysis, the iCBT+TAU group had lower weekly alcohol consumption compared to the TAU group.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of prophylactic use of terlipressin in reducing the occurrence of severe postreperfusion syndrome (PRS) in deceased donor liver transplantation. The results showed that the terlipressin group had stable mean arterial pressure and heart rate at 30 minutes after surgery, and a lower incidence of severe PRS compared to the control group (9.4% vs 53.1%). However, the use of terlipressin resulted in an increased pulmonary capillary wedge pressure. Patients in the terlipressin group also experienced a decrease in right portal vein flow velocity, longer mechanical ventilation time, lower initial poor graft function rate, and lower peak alanine transaminase levels after transplantation.
