Summary: The visible-light-induced photoreduction of carborane phosphonium salts under blue light irradiation provides a simple and effective method for accessing carbon-centered carboranyl radicals without the use of transition metals and photocatalysts. The utility of this method is demonstrated by the successful preparation of carborane-oxindole-pharmaceutical hybrids through radical cascade reactions. Computational and experimental studies suggest that the carbon-centered carboranyl radicals are generated through single-electron transfer of photoactive charge-transfer complexes between the salts and the additive potassium acetate.

Summary: A family of tribenzocoronene derivatives with various substituents were synthesized and characterized. The substitution effect on optical and electrochemical properties was systematically studied using theoretical calculations. The resulting thin films of two specific derivatives exhibited strong photocurrent responses under white light and showed positive nonlinear optical response through two-photon absorption and excited state absorption processes.

Summary: A simple method for synthesizing luminescent lambda(5)-phosphanaphthalenes and zwitterionic nido-carborane fused six-membered phosphacycles has been developed. The method involves the reaction of ortho-phosphinobenzoaldehydes or ortho-phosphinocarboranylaldehydes with an electron-deficient alkyne, respectively, to achieve similar results with imino analogues. Summary: The first metallacarborane derivatives of 1,1'-bis(meta-carborane) have been synthesized by deboronation and substitution of fragments, leading to a variety of metallacarborane compounds. These compounds were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Despite evidence of steric crowding between the arene or Cp/Cp* ligand on the metal and the pendant carborane cage in structural studies, isomerization of the metallacarborane does not occur.

Summary: Short peptides containing the Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) fragment have the potential to selectively bind to integrins on tumor cells and serve as ideal transport molecules for targeted delivery of therapeutic and diagnostic agents to tumors, such as glioblastoma. We have demonstrated the feasibility of obtaining N- and C-protected RGD peptides with 3-amino-closo-carborane and a glutaric acid residue as a linker fragment. The resulting carboranyl derivatives of the protected RGD peptide are of great interest for the synthesis of unprotected or selectively protected peptides, as well as for the preparation of more structurally complex boron-containing derivatives of the RGD peptide.

Summary: A variety of 9,9'-spirobifluorenes and related azaspirocycles and diazaspirocycles have been synthesized in high yields using the Brinsted superacid triflic acid (CF3SO3H) through intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction. The superacid outperforms weaker Brinsted acids, providing better yields, shorter reaction times, and eliminating the need for heating. It is particularly effective in the synthesis of diazaspirocycles, involving the generation of dicationic electrophilic intermediates.

Summary: A series of bent-core paramagnetic ionic liquid crystals containing the N-methylimidazolium group were prepared and their mesogenic, magnetic, and ion conductive properties were investigated. The ion pairs form fluid smectic phases above 100 degrees C, with ion conductivity ranging from 10(-5) to 10(-8) S cm(-1). Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed liquid-like molecular arrangement in the paramagnetic layers.

Summary: Electronic communication between Fe centers in diiron complexes with different ligands was investigated, and it was found that [closo-B10H8-1,10-diyl](2-) has the best ability among the closo-boranes to mediate electronic effects similar to those of 1,4-phenylene. This is evident from the observed separation of one-electron-oxidation waves and comparable S-T energy gaps in the doubly oxidized species.

Summary: The [closo-B10H8-1,10-(COOH)(2)](2-) was synthesized from [closo-B10H10](2-) in five steps with an overall yield of 40%. It can be converted to [closo-B10H8-1,10-(CO)(2)] and subsequently to carbonium ylides [closo-B10H8-1-COOH-10-(C(NRCH2)(2))]. Characterization was done using spectroscopic and single crystal XRD methods augmented with DFT results.

Summary: This paper presents a synthetic method for accessing spin-labeled compounds by synthesizing 7-CF3-1,4-dihydrobenzo[e][1,2,4]triazin-4-yl radicals containing different substituents and converting them into tosylates and phosphates. The obtained tosylates were used to obtain disulfides and azides. The Blatter radical containing an azido group showed good reactivity in a copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction, indicating its potential for grafting onto other molecular objects via the CuAAC click reaction.

Summary: Metal-containing heteraadamantanes are compounds of interest due to their spectroscopic and magnetic properties, making them promising materials for non-linear optics and semiconductors. The newly reported coordination compound crystallizes as a polynuclear metal complex with an adamantane-like core in the cubic system, containing an octahedrally coordinated iron atom in the oxidation state +3. The compound shows a high propensity for forming long-range interactions involving bridging oxygen atoms.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of substituents on the photophysical properties of derivatives of [closo-B10H10](2-), revealing the significant impact of the B(10) substituent on the HOMO and the C(4) substituent on the LUMO, allowing for variation of charge transfer band energy and emission energy. Additionally, solvent effects on the photophysical properties were observed, showing a substantial degree of control over these properties through a combination of substituent and solvent effects.
