Summary: Deltaic systems have high sedimentation rates and efficient decomposition of sedimentary organic matter. This study uses a novel method to examine sediment oxygen consumption and organic matter diagenesis in the East China Sea. Winter mixing is identified as an important mechanism for the highly efficient decomposition of sedimentary organic matter in coastal seas.

Summary: This study demonstrates the crucial role of magmatic hydrothermal fluids and their mixing with meteoric water in the formation of the Dongping gold deposit in the North China Craton. The findings highlight the potential use of in situ oxygen isotope analysis of garnet in tracing the origin and evolution of hydrothermal fluids in the Earth's crust that may have formed other giant ore deposits.

Summary: The ocean overturning circulation during the Early Eocene was predominantly driven by the Southern Hemisphere, with the Southern Ocean being the main deepwater formation site and the North Atlantic deepwater formation completely absent. Climate models suggest that the global MOC is insensitive to atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

Summary: The Pt/CeO2 and Pt/Nb2O5 catalysts exhibit different activity in CO and propane oxidation, which is attributed to the different properties of the support affecting the active Pt species and reaction pathways. The high activity of Pt/CeO2 for CO oxidation is due to the facile activation of oxygen species on CeO2, while the high activity of Pt/Nb2O5 for propane oxidation is attributed to the high concentration of metallic Pt species induced by the stabilizing effect of surface acidity of Nb2O5 support.

Summary: This study found a linear relationship between gas/particle partition coefficients and octanol-air partition coefficients as well as subcooled liquid vapor pressures. Analytical equations based on steady state theory were developed to predict related parameters, and the evaluation using global monitoring data showed that the equations could accurately reproduce the observed trends in monitoring results.

Summary: Gas/particle partitioning plays a key role in the transport and fate of semi-volatile organic compounds in the atmosphere, with the equilibrium assumption being challenged by experimental findings. Analytical equations were developed to calculate parameters related to partitioning, revealing that deviations from theoretical predictions cannot be solely explained by experimental or statistical artifacts.

Summary: The interactions between organic matter and its mineral carrier remain strong during sediment transport in the Western Arctic Ocean, indicating the potential for using organic-inorganic tracer measurements to understand sediment sources and physical and geochemical processes. The consistent information obtained from carbon and neodymium isotopic data suggests a new approach for identifying biogeochemical and ecological changes stemming from sea ice loss and increased fluvial inputs of organic carbon in this dynamic high latitude marginal sea.
