Summary: Lung cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) accounts for more than 85% of lung cancer cases, and despite advancements in therapy, the survival rate for NSCLC patients remains low. miRNAs have been identified as molecules that play a crucial role in tumorigenesis and progression of various cancers, including NSCLC. Dysregulation of miRNAs has been recognized as a causative mechanism in NSCLC tumorigenesis. This review discusses the role of miRNAs in NSCLC tumor progression and their potential as therapeutic biomarkers, highlighting specific miRNAs that could be explored for NSCLC management.

Summary: This study demonstrates the strong oncogenic potential of the homeobox gene CDX2 in the hematopoietic lineage, contrasting with its physiological tumor suppressor activity in the gut. CDX2 protein was shown to bind to and activate the transcription of the human BAMBI promoter, indicating its involvement in perturbation of interactions between leukemia cells and their microenvironment.

Summary: The Notch signaling pathway is important for normal development, but dysregulation of this pathway is associated with various types of tumors. In addition to its role in tumor cells, Notch signaling also affects non-mutated cells in the tumor microenvironment and their interactions with tumor cells.

Summary: Myc target 1 (MYCT1), located at 6q25.2, is a crucial player in cancer development with widely distributed expression in cells and variable subcellular localization across different cancer types. It is regulated by multiple transcription factors and aberrant expression of MYCT1 impacts key biological processes and tumor immune responses in cancer cells. Despite some debated functions, MYCT1 holds undeniable significance in cancer development. This review aims to comprehensively examine the relationship between MYCT1 and cancer, providing valuable insights for cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: Correct cell number generation is important for tissue development. In this study, the roles of coordinated proliferation of neural progenitors and the molecular mechanism were investigated in zebrafish. The results showed that overexpression of p15 led to expanded clones of donor retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) in the host retinae. Further analysis revealed that reduced levels of cell adhesion molecule 3 (cadm3) in p15(+) retinae suppressed clonal expansion, while overexpression of Cadm3 inhibited clonal expansion. The study highlights the importance of Cadm3 in regulating cell number homeostasis during neural tissue development.

Summary: Aberrant expression of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been detected in various cancers, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This study found that the expression level of uc.112 in pediatric ALL was higher in T-ALL patients compared to B-ALL patients. Additionally, uc.112 was also significantly increased in hyperdiploid B-ALL patients, while uc.122, uc.160, and uc.262 showed no association with biological or clinical features.
