Summary: In this paper, a continuous-wave and electro-optically (EO) Q-switched Ho-doped lutetium vanadate (Ho:LuVO4) laser, dual end-pumped by two laser diodes at 1.94 μm, is reported. The continuous-wave regime achieved a maximum output power of 18.8 W at 2058.1 nm, with a slope efficiency of 54.1% relative to the absorbed pump power of 44.7 W. By using a langasite (La3Ga5SiO14, LGS) crystal as the EO Q-switch, the EO Q-switched Ho:LuVO4 laser produced a maximum pulse energy of 3.2 mJ and a minimum pulse width of 8.9 ns at a pulse repetition frequency of 3 kHz, resulting in a peak power of 358.8 kW.

Summary: This study investigates the use of Molybdenum Titanium Aluminum Carbide (Mo2Ti2AlC2) as a reliable saturable absorber (SA) for stable pulse generation at a wavelength of 1563 nm. A Mo2Ti2AlC2-PVA film was created by dispersing Mo2Ti2AlC2 powder with > 200 nm particle size into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and drying it to form a film. The Mo2Ti2AlC2-PVA film exhibited a linear absorption coefficient of approximately 1.5 dB at the Q-switched working wavelength. Self-started Q-switching was achieved with pump power ranging from 20 mW to 55 mW, resulting in a pulse width reduction from 21.7 μs to 8.9 μs and an increase in repetition rate from 20.45 kHz to 40.40 kHz. The pulsed laser showed good stability, with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 61 dB. The highest output power and pulse energies were measured at 1.1 mW and 27.2 nJ, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of Mo2Ti2AlC2 as an alternative passive SA for laser pulsing at the 1.55-micron wavelength.

Summary: A 1.5-1.6 μm pulse laser passively Q-switched by a Co2+:MgAl2O4 crystal was realized in an Er:Yb:Sr3Gd2(BO3)(4) crystal, generating a pulse laser with energy of 9.1 μJ, repetition frequency of 15.6 kHz, and duration of 29 ns. The output laser beam exhibited linear polarization parallel to the Y optical indicatrix axis, making the Er:Yb:Sr3Gd2(BO3)(4) crystal a promising gain medium for 1.5-1.6 μm laser applications.

Summary: We reported a mid-infrared passively Q-switching Er:YSGG pulse laser based on Ti(3)C(2)Tx MXene saturable absorber, achieving a shortest pulse width of 335 ns and a repetition rate of 207 KHz. This is the shortest pulse compared with other 3 um solid state lasers based on MXene saturable absorbers. The results suggest that MXene holds promise as a Q-switching element for mid-infrared pulse lasers.
