Summary: This study reports a host-guest interaction-controlled photoproduct created by using Q[7]-based pseudorotaxane structures. The assembly exhibits controlled behavior towards the reduction of the C=C bond in the TPyE guest molecule under UV light irradiation, attributed to the Q[7] encapsulation masking the four pyridinium arms of the guest, inhibiting planarization of the TPyE core.

Summary: In this study, alkyne-functionalized CB[7] was successfully immobilized on gold surfaces. The resulting CB[7]-functionalized SAMs showed high stability and uniformity. The study revealed that surface-bound CB[7] exhibits strong host-guest binding towards both cationic and neutral ferrocene derivatives, as well as comparable binding stability towards anionic ferrocene derivatives.

Summary: Chromone and cucurbit[7]uril form an inclusion complex in aqueous solution, which coordinates with lanthanide ions to produce strong fluorescence emission. These ternary rare-earth complexes exhibit high fluorescence intensity and long lifetimes, while also showing specific fluorescence responses to antibiotics in aqueous solution.

Summary: An iminium dication 1 was designed as an easily removable guest for CB[7], showing high affinity (K-a > 10(11) M-1) due to optimized ion-dipole interactions and packing coefficient. Under alkaline conditions, 1 in CB[7]center dot 1 is hydrolyzed into 2,6-adamantanedione and pyrrolidine, which can be fully removed by further extraction, enabling the recycling of CB[7] materials.

Summary: In the investigation of photochromic materials based on supramolecular host-guest systems, a unique viologen derivative without oxygen atoms was designed and synthesized, showing interesting fluorescence emission and reversible photochromism in the obtained supramolecular host-guest complex. Experimental data suggest the photochromic process is from electron transfer between the host and guest.

Summary: This report investigates the complexation of azobenzenedyes with cucurbit[7]uril (CB7). The results show that CB7 encapsulates the protonated form of the azobenzene and stabilizes the dye conjugate acid, leading to an increase in pK(a). Molecular modeling suggests that this complex formation is stabilized by ion-dipole interactions, inclusion of the azobenzene ring within the CB7 cavity, and a hydrogen bond between the azo nitrogen and CB7 carbonyls. CB7 complexation not only enhances the stability and hydrophilicity of azobenzene but also offers potential applications in pigment and prodrug development, as well as creating dye displacement assays.

Summary: We report complex formation between the chloroacetamide 2,6-diazaadamantane nitroxide radical (ClA-DZD) and cucurbit[7]uril (CB-7), which significantly immobilizes the radical and allows for reliable measurement of interspin distances. These findings have important implications for supramolecular recognition-enabled long-distance DEER measurements at near physiological temperatures.

Summary: This study introduces a versatile recognition tunneling technique using doubly cucurbit[7]uril-functionalized electrodes to form supramolecular junctions that capture analytes dynamically by host-guest complexation, resulting in characteristic changes in their single-molecule conductance. For structurally related drug molecules and mixtures, distinct current switching signals related to their intrinsic conductance properties and pH-dependent effects are observed.

Summary: In this study, a series of aromatic Schiff bases containing 7-diethylamino-coumarin with different substituents on an adjacent phenyl ring were synthesized and characterized. The stability of these dyes in acidic medium was assessed by studying their hydrolysis reactions both in the absence and presence of the macrocycle CB[7]. The results revealed supramolecular control of CB[7] on the reactivity and stability of 7-diethylaminocoumarin Schiff bases, with CB[7] exhibiting both catalytic and inhibitory effects on the hydrolysis reactions.

Summary: Spectroscopic and computational techniques were used to study the complexation of gabapentin and its lactam form with cucurbit[7]uril in aqueous solution. The results showed that cucurbit[7]uril can form 1:1 complexes with both gabapentin and its lactam form, with a higher preference for the lactam form. The encapsulation of gabapentin within the cavity of cucurbit[7]uril also increased the rate of lactamization, as revealed by NMR spectra.

Summary: In this study, the host-guest complexation between CB[7] and the alpha- and beta-anomers of glucosamine was investigated. The results showed that electrostatic and van der Waals interactions played important roles in the stability of the complexes. Thermodynamic integration revealed the preferred binding of specific anomers and the resulting pK(a) shift of glucosamine.

Summary: In this study, fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were synthesized from cucurbit[7]uril and 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid via a hydrothermal method. The formation of Q[7]-DMPA complex was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The CQDs exhibited blue fluorescence, photostability, and ionic strength stability, and were successfully utilized for histamine detection.
