Summary: A novel concept of developing a fluorophore-free organogel that can exhibit blue fluorescence in a transparent state and undergo optical switching from blue to purple in a non-transparent state upon phase transition is proposed. The organogel, synthesized by co-crosslinking hydrophilic acrylamide and hydrophobic hexafluorobutyl acrylate using ammonium persulphate initiator in dimethyl sulphoxide, exhibits blue fluorescence generated by the decomposition of ammonium bisulfate during heating. The organogel also demonstrates patternable and reversible optical switching under UV light, making it applicable for information encoding/encryption and optical-switchable soft actuators.

Summary: The consumption and improper disposal of plastics have caused serious environmental concerns. New methods based on fluorescent tagging have been developed to facilitate the identification and sorting of different materials in plastic recycling. In this study, new fluorescent copolymers of polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS) were synthesized and characterized for use as markers. These copolymers were found to have distinguishable fluorescent emissions even with a low concentration of only 1% in the PE/PS blends.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between chemical structure and switching time of electrochromic polymer materials by designing and synthesizing four star-shape monomers and characterizing their resulting polymer films. The findings showed that PM3 exhibited the fastest switching time due to its smaller grain size, lowest charge transfer resistance, and fastest diffusion coefficient values at the oxidation state.

Summary: In this study, a Carbazole-Benzene-Tripyridine ligand with a D-pi-A structure was prepared and its corresponding Eu (III) and Tb (III) complexes were synthesized. The structures of the complexes were analyzed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It was surprising that the fluorescence emission intensity of the Eu(III) complex increased significantly upon addition of solvent, indicating solvent-induced activation of fluorescence. Furthermore, the addition of solvent broke the pi-pi stacking and enhanced the fluorescence of the Eu(III) complex.

Summary: Highly featured Cu2ZnSnS4 nanoparticles with a tetragonal crystal structure were efficiently prepared using a solvothermal process and sulfate-based copper and zinc precursors. The crystallite size decreased with increasing temperature, as demonstrated by XRD analysis. FESEM images and EDX analysis confirmed the sphere-like morphology and sulfur-rich properties of the nanoparticles. The Cu2ZnSnS4 nanomaterials exhibited potential as efficient photovoltaic materials, as indicated by their optical properties and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results.

Summary: The electron donor-acceptor system, made of a C-60 fullerene acceptor and poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) as the donor, exhibits resistive state changes and volatile photo-response characteristics under various voltages and light conditions. The device also demonstrates nonvolatile rewritable memory performance in the dark, with significant changes in switching-on voltage and ON/OFF ratio when illuminated with different wavelengths of light. This work paves the way for integrating information storage and modulation/demodulation functions in optoelectronic devices.
