We have developed a facile synthesis route to 1 D structures of ultrathin polycrystalline hematite and goethite-hematite core-shells. One-dimensional structures of pure hematite and the goethite-hematite core-shell with very small diameters were synthesized in aqueous solution at low temperature with a simple, rapid method based on the oxidation of Fe3O4 nanoparticles without using surfactants.

Summary: This study presents an indirect 3D printing approach combining FDM and replica process to manufacture cellular Si-based non-oxide ceramic structures. The process includes printing honeycomb PLA lattices, dip-coating with preceramic polymers, and converting them into ceramics through pyrolysis. The results demonstrate the capability of this method to produce customizable lightweight stable ceramics with retained honeycomb structure.

Summary: A multistep synthesis method was used to prepare nanoscale core@shell spherical heterostructures for H2 optical detection. These nanoheterostructures consist of gold cores, silica shells, and a thin layer of spherical palladium nanoparticles. The samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, and the three-dimensional core@shell configuration was confirmed by electron tomography. The optical properties of the nanostructures were analyzed, and their potential for H2 detection was evaluated.

Electrochemical Properties of Silver Nanoparticles in Mesoporous Silica and Titania Films: Specific Behavior of Titania Composite

Fernand Chassagneux, Nelly Couzon, Christophe Place, Mathieu Maillard, Arnaud Brioude, Laurence Bois

Summary: The electrochemical behavior of silver nanoparticles in mesoporous oxide electrodes was investigated. The results showed the importance of Ag+ ion retention by TiO2 films. Two anodic peaks in the voltammetric curves were observed, which could be explained by the presence of two distinct populations of silver nanoparticles with different size distributions in the film.

Summary: In this study, nanometric-range polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers were produced and their morphology was controlled for potential use as precursors for high-electrical-conductivity carbon fibers. The percentage of PAN in the solution and the preparation potential were found to affect the diameter and morphology of the fibers.

Intercalation of a manganese(II)-thiacalixarene luminescent complex in layered double hydroxides: synthesis and photophysical characterization

Niall O'Toole, Constance Lecourt, Yan Suffren, Francois Toche, Rodica Chiriac, Nicole Gilon, Francois Bessueille, Arnaud Brioude, Erwann Jeanneau, Dominique Luneau, Cedric Desroches

Summary: The anionic luminescent complex [(ThiaSO(2))(2)(Mn-II)(4)F](-) is introduced between the positive layers of Layered Double Hydroxides in formamide, resulting in the doping of LDH. The photophysical properties of the resulting compound show luminescent properties with high sensitivity to oxygen under different atmospheres and excitation wavelengths. Incorporating the luminescent complex within the LDH host allows for high sensitivity to oxygen without photo-degradation, making it potential for oxygen sensing or singlet oxygen generation applications.
