Neighbourhood and path-based greenspace in three European countries: associations with objective physical activity

William Mueller, Paul Wilkinson, James Milner, Sotiris Vardoulakis, Susanne Steinle, Juha Parkka, Eija Parmes, Luc Cluitmans, Eelco Kuijpers, Anjoeka Pronk, Denis Sarigiannis, Spyros Karakitsios, Dimitris Chapizanis, Thomas Maggos, Asimina Stamatelopoulou, Miranda Loh

Summary: The study found that there was no clear link between residential greenspace levels and outdoor physical activity time, but there was a positive association between greenspace indicators and the intensity and duration of activity. Future research should focus on larger, more diverse populations and investigate the influence of greenspace for trip purpose and route preference.

Personal exposure monitoring of PM2.5 among US diplomats in Kathmandu during the COVID-19 lockdown, March to June 2020

Leslie Edwards, Gemma Rutter, Leslie Iverson, Laura Wilson, Tandeep S. Chadha, Paul Wilkinson, Ai Milojevic

Summary: The lockdown order issued by the government of Nepal in the Kathmandu Valley from 24 March to 11 June 2020 significantly reduced the concentration of ambient PM2.5. Monitoring of four American diplomats during the lockdown found a significant decrease in personal exposure to PM2.5 compared to before the lockdown.

Health effects in people relocating between environments of differing ambient air pollution concentrations: A literature review

Leslie Edwards, Paul Wilkinson, Gemma Rutter, Ai Milojevic

Summary: This study reviewed literature on relocations and their health effects, finding that relocations may impact physiological outcomes, biomarkers, or symptoms. Most studies support short- or long-term adverse effects of air pollution on biological function or mortality, but there are design weaknesses in many exposure change studies that limit the robustness of interpretation.
