Summary: The study examines a directed dynamics reaction-diffusion competition model to analyze the density evolution of a single species population with harvesting effect in a heterogeneous environment. The findings indicate that if harvesting exceeds the growth rate, the population will eventually go extinct.

Summary: This systematic review analyzed the development and functionality of microfluidic concentration gradient generators (CGGs) for toxicological evaluation. The majority of articles focused on the fabrication methods, characteristics of the CGGs, biological models, and evaluation techniques. Soft lithography using PDMS material and the Christmas tree CGG design were popular choices. Imaging and microscopy techniques were commonly used for evaluating the toxic effects. CGGs showed advantages over other techniques and were applicable to various biological models.

Summary: This study investigates a diffusive nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton (NPZ) model with spatiotemporal delay and advances the understanding of local stability for equilibrium solutions. By proposing a new local stability theorem for generalized three-dimensional systems and conducting qualitative analysis with a specific delay kernel, it highlights the stabilizing effect of diffusion. Numerical simulations confirm the analytical results and suggest the possibility of complex spatio-temporal dynamics when sufficient nutrients are present.

Summary: By using a tilted micro-thin water flow and cross-linearly-polarised femtosecond laser pulses, fine control of the polarisation of terahertz (THz) emission is demonstrated. The intensity of THz emission is significantly enhanced with optimized double-pulse irradiation, resulting in improved photon-number-based efficiency.

Summary: The study shows that the nanoporous PDMS surfaces of a rectangular microfluidic channel can selectively uptake water molecules, concentrating the solute molecules in an aqueous phase, and drive phase transitions. Factors such as surface wettability, channel geometry, surface-to-volume ratio, and surface topography play a crucial role in tuning the phase transitions in a spatial and temporal manner. These findings provide insights into material assembly and biological manipulation in microfluidic environments.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology for synthesizing concentration gradient generators (CGGs) with arbitrary concentration profiles. The synthesized CGGs employ a one-step-dilution microfluidic network and inexpensive multi-barrel syringe pumps. The proposed design has the potential for high throughput and a wide range of input flowrates. The synthesized CGGs were simulated, validated, fabricated, and implemented, and the results show that they can consistently generate precise concentration gradients for various types of concentration profiles.

Summary: A GPU-enabled design framework is presented to automate the global optimization process of microfluidic concentration gradient generators. The framework utilizes a physics-based component model for simulation and incorporates a genetic algorithm for optimization. The results demonstrate the potential of applying microfluidic design automation on the edge-computing platform in laboratory environments.

Summary: This article proposes a spatio-temporal-spectral collaborative learning framework for spatio-temporal fusion of multisource remote-sensing images. The framework integrates convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network to learn and fuse features from multiscale spatial-spectral to spatio-temporal. Experimental results demonstrate the competitive performance of the proposed method in fusing images with land cover changes.

Summary: With the prevalence of dynamic task allocation in sharing economy applications, online bipartite graph matching has gained increasing attention in recent years. However, there are three main problems in previous studies, including the neglect of long-term utility, low allocation numbers, and difficulty in improving total allocation utilities. In this paper, we propose a Policy Gradient Based Discrete Threshold Task Allocation algorithm (DTTA) and a Proximal Policy Optimization Based Continuous Threshold Task Allocation algorithm (PPOTA) to address these problems, and experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed algorithms.

Summary: By controlling the temporal and spatial features of light, we propose a novel protocol for preparing entangling gates on trapped atoms. The protocol is robust to variations in pulse areas and atom positions, and it uses structured light. We analyze the gate fidelity map and propose generalizations for multi-pulse sequences.

Summary: Complex-shaped microgels with active and remote orientational control have great potential in the field of soft metamaterials. This work introduces a method for spatio-temporal flow control using magnetically actuable microgels of complex shape, and demonstrates the concept in microfluidic impellers. The fabrication of these microgels is achieved through stop-flow lithography, and their magnetic response is comprehensively quantified. These complex-shaped microgels are then integrated as actuable impellers in a microfluidic chip, showcasing the versatility of the fabrication methodology.

Summary: The hippocampus in control mice shows spatial and time-dependent differences in energy metabolism along the dorsoventral axis, with changes in metabolic activity between morning and afternoon. In an epilepsy model, this spatiotemporal organization is significantly altered, with enhanced aerobic glycolysis in both dorsal and ventral parts in the afternoon when seizure probability is high. This suggests that energy metabolism is tailored to the functions performed by brain networks and alterations in pathological conditions may contribute to network dysfunctions.
