Summary: The aim of this study was to prepare Juglans nigra husk extracts using ultrasonic-assisted extraction and optimize mineral extraction using response surface methodology. Ethanol (70%, v/v) was used as a solvent, and different extraction temperatures and times were tested. The content of minerals in the extracts was determined using ICP-OES. The results showed that 40 degrees C temperature and 77-80 min extraction time were optimal for extracting macro- and micro-elements.

Summary: The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of different polar fractions from walnut green husk were analyzed. The ethyl acetate polar fraction (EAPF) showed the highest flavonoid and phenol content, as well as the highest scavenging activity and antibacterial activity. The study suggests that walnut green husk has the potential to be developed as a natural antioxidant and antibacterial material.

Summary: Green husks are the discarded outer layer of walnut fruits, but research shows that they contain a rich source of bioactive phytochemicals. These include 83 phenolic compounds, such as naphthoquinones, flavonols, and hydroxycinnamic acids, which have strong antioxidant properties and play a role in the plant's defense mechanisms.

Summary: Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete used for stormwater management due to its high porosity and permeability, but its low mechanical strength is a drawback. The study used calcium carbide waste and rice husk ash to partially replace Portland cement, finding negative effects on the durability of pervious concrete, with the best performance achieved with 0% RHA and 5% CCW.

Summary: This is the first report to evaluate the effect of natural antioxidants, pH, and green solvents on the yield and stability of catechins during the extraction process from green tea leaves. The results showed that using green solvents augmented with natural antioxidants and at a low pH of 2 resulted in the highest yield and better stability of catechins.

Summary: Husk powder was prepared from seven varieties of walnut fruit to evaluate their hulling rate, chemical compounds, and total phenolic contents. Apolar and polar extracts were analyzed by GC/MS and UHPLC-PDA-HRMS/MS, revealing the presence of alkanes, tocopherols, sterols, fatty acids, and phenolics. The antioxidant power, antimicrobial activity, and cytotoxic potential of green walnut husk were also assessed. The results showed variations in phenolic content, antioxidant power, and antibacterial effect among different walnut varieties, with the green Saman exhibiting the highest antioxidant properties.

Summary: In this study, a novel extraction strategy combining microemulsion and high voltage electric discharge (HVED) was proposed to extract natural naphthoquinones (NQs) from walnut green husks. The results showed that this strategy resulted in a high yield of NQs and provided a competitive option to extract hydrophobic compounds in a less-organics-consumption way.
