Summary: In non-anuric patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis, urine volume correlates positively with removed solute masses and weekly residual renal clearances, suggesting that it can be used as an estimator of typical values of residual solute removal indices in these patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary salt intake and residual renal function in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The results showed a positive correlation between dietary sodium intake and sodium excretion. A high salt intake diet (salt intake >= 8 g/day) may lead to a faster decline of residual renal function in PD patients.

Summary: By comparing automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) with manual fluid exchange peritoneal dialysis (MPD), our study found that the combined APD and MPD (A-MPD) treatment mode had better results in removing serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and potassium, as well as improving serum carbon dioxide combining power levels. It also required less time for fluid exchange by nurses. Additionally, patients in the A-MPD group performed better in skill tests. Therefore, the A-MPD mode can be recommended as an adoptable and suitable peritoneal dialysis modality for urgent-start peritoneal dialysis (USPD).

Summary: This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis in treating end-stage diabetic nephropathy. The results showed that the hemodialysis group had a higher incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events and bleeding complications compared to the peritoneal dialysis group. However, there was no significant difference in infection or malnutrition incidence between the two forms of dialysis. Hemodialysis was found to better improve albumin and hemoglobin levels.

Summary: This study analyzed data from the US Renal Data System database from 2006 to 2019 and found that the incidence of cardiogenic shock in end-stage renal disease patients has increased, but there has been no significant change in index mortality and 1-year all-cause mortality. Despite the use of percutaneous mechanical support, the index mortality of cardiogenic shock in end-stage renal disease patients has not improved.

Summary: Patients with ESRD receiving peritoneal dialysis show specific disruptions in functional connectivity, especially in the default-mode network and salience network. They exhibit decreased global efficiency, increased betweenness centrality, and increased characteristic path length. The study confirms significant changes in cerebral connections in cognitively intact patients with PD.

Summary: In this study, a VR training program was developed to help patients learn the PD exchange procedure, and the results showed significant improvements in performance. VR training can facilitate patients' understanding and learning of the PD exchange procedure, and it was well-received by the patients.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of peritoneal-membrane characteristics on hydration status in patients on PD. It compares bioimpedance-assessed dry weight with clinical judgment, showing that BIA assistance can improve fluid and blood-pressure control but needs to be maintained at a proper interval to sustain the positive effects.

Summary: This study found that the choice between hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) does not affect patient survival in those with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated glomerulonephritis and end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Summary: This study compares glymphatic dysfunction between patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and healthy controls, and reveals the presence of glymphatic dysfunction in patients with ESRD as demonstrated by the DTI-ALPS index. Additionally, a significant positive correlation is found between the DTI-ALPS index and serum parathyroid hormone levels in ESRD patients.

Summary: This case report highlights a patient with multiple brain abscesses caused by Streptococcus intermedius, ultimately recovering but requiring enucleation of the left eye. Subtherapeutic antibiotic concentrations were initially an issue, only resolved by increasing the dosage. It serves as a reminder that augmented renal clearance can impact the treatment of serious bacterial infections.

Summary: A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effect of oral curcumin on serum levels of creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). The results showed that oral curcumin supplementation significantly improved creatinine levels but increased BUN levels. Subgroup analysis indicated that longer duration of curcumin intervention had a more favorable effect on serum BUN levels. This suggests that oral curcumin with high bioavailability can positively impact creatinine and BUN levels in patients with inflammatory diseases when supplemented for > 8 weeks.

Summary: Trials in peritoneal dialysis encompass a wide range of reported outcome domains, with frequent inconsistencies in measurement and reporting. Infection is the most commonly reported clinical outcome, while patient-reported outcomes are scarce and nearly half of the domains are surrogate. Standardized outcomes are needed to enhance efficiency and relevance in PD trials.

Summary: In a study of 263 PD patients, it was found that patients using DC dialysates were younger, had lower comorbidity scores, slower peritoneal transport, and higher ECW/TBW ratios. However, there were no demonstrable advantages in terms of biochemical profiles, residual renal function, muscle strength, or tissue AGE deposition for patients using low GDP dialysates.

Summary: In PD patients, fluid overload is associated with mortality, but low daily sodium removal is not an independent risk factor for mortality. The relationship between kt/v and sodium removal was explored, and it was found that markers of sarcopenia were associated with increased mortality. Traditional targets of 'dialysis adequacy' did not predict survival, and measuring sodium clearance may help optimize PD modality.
