Summary: This study aims to assess the mediation effects of mean platelet volume (MPV) in lipids and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). The results showed a positive correlation between MPV and CAD severity, and the combination of lipid index and MPV can better predict high CAD severity. Mediation analysis also revealed the mediating effect of lipid index on CAD severity through MPV.

Summary: This study used machine learning models to predict the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). The study included 284 retrospective participants and 116 prospectively enrolled participants, and the data was pre-processed using outlier processing and One-Hot coding. The results showed that the proposed model had good performance in predicting CAD and could provide a foundation for risk stratification and severity assessment of CAD.

Summary: High-sensitivity troponin T and high-sensitivity troponin I levels are independently associated with all-cause mortality in stable patients, while only high-sensitivity troponin I is associated with major adverse cardiovascular events, even after adjusting for confounders including coronary artery disease severity.

Summary: The study compared the admission MPV and PVDW in dogs with CPV enteritis to healthy age-matched control dogs, finding that CPV-infected dogs had significantly higher levels of MPV and PVDW compared to controls. This suggests significant platelet activation in dogs with CPV enteritis, similar to people with sepsis, which may impact disease outcome. Further studies are needed to investigate the prognostic ability of MPV in dogs with CPV enteritis.

Summary: The study investigated the usefulness of the combination of MPVLR and MHR in predicting patients with AMI. The results showed that MPVLR and MHR were significantly higher in the AMI group than in the control group, and were positively correlated with Gensini score and Grace score. High levels of MPVLR and MHR were associated with an increased risk for AMI.

Summary: The Gensini score is a useful tool for evaluating the severity and complexity of coronary artery diseases. This research found a correlation between the Gensini score and periprocedural myocardial infarction (PMI), with higher scores associated with a higher incidence of PMI. The study also determined the optimal cut-off values of the Gensini score for predicting PMI.

Summary: The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) risk and severity, but the relationship differs between males and females. NLR is correlated with CAD severity in male patients and serves as an independent risk factor and predictor for CAD in males, but not in females.

Summary: This study described the differences in mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet count, and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) between patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls, and examined their correlation with the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP). The results showed that patients with schizophrenia had higher MPV levels than healthy controls, but the difference was not statistically significant. Additionally, DUP did not have a significant correlation with the blood parameters analyzed.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association between Nutritional Risk Index (NRI) and severity/complexity of coronary artery disease in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Results showed that lower NRI was associated with more extensive and complex coronary atherosclerosis, as indicated by higher Gensini and SYNTAX scores. High Gensini and SYNTAX scores were also linked to lower NRI levels.

Summary: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a complex cardiovascular disease and the leading cause of global mortality. This study aimed to assess the contribution of selected cholesterol metabolism-related gene polymorphisms to CAD presence. It was found that LDLR rs5930 polymorphism was associated with T2DM presence in male CAD patients.

Summary: The study found that APOE and CLU gene polymorphisms have a significant impact on the prevalence of CAD and T2DM, as well as lipid and glucose metabolism. The 82 and 84 isoforms of apoE were associated with serum lipid levels, while CLU T allele carriers showed lower glycosylated hemoglobin levels in non-CAD subjects. Additionally, carriers of the 82 isoform had a lower risk for CAD combined with T2DM, and the combination of APOE 82 and CLU T allele carriers had decreased risk for CAD complexed with T2DM compared to non-carriers.

The results showed that the Val allele was associated with increased risk of critical CAD and higher levels of LDL-C in both men and women. This suggests that the Val109Asp polymorphism may play a role in the pathogenesis of CAD.

Summary: With the rapid growth of air travel services and medical technology, more passengers with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) are flying each year. Although commercial airline flights are generally safe for these patients, precautions should be taken in specific circumstances, such as the risk of pneumothorax or electromagnetic interference during flight. However, these risks are rare and usually do not lead to significant clinical consequences.
