Summary: This study analyzed the expression of cytokines in bovine endometrial epithelial cells infected with Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus and Salmonella Typhimurium. The results showed that IL-1β and IL-8 levels were initially high and decreased during intracellular infection, while IFN-γ levels increased over time and peaked at 4 hours post infection. TNF-α expression did not change during infection with either bacteria. The study suggests that bovine endometrial epithelial cells can recognize C. fetus subsp. fetus and mount an early proinflammatory response.
