Summary: The study reveals the presence of rabies virus RNA in apparently healthy dogs slaughtered for human consumption in Ghana, suggesting a potential risk for rabies transmission. It also found that males, the Frafra tribe, and individuals with non-specific tribes are more likely to consume dog meat.

Summary: The study presented a rapid, accurate, simple, and sensitive fluorescent immunochromatographic strip test (ICST) for detecting Brucella infection in animal serum. The QDFM-based test strips demonstrated excellent repeatability and a detection limit of 1.05 ng/mL. The ICST showed a high coincidence rate with RBPT in clinical samples, indicating its potential for on-site screening of brucellosis.

Summary: A sensitive immunochromatographic test strip (ITS) for detecting AFB(1) using dendritic platinum nanoparticles as pressure/colorimetric dual-readout probes was developed. The ITS showed a detection range of 0.05-10 ng mL(-1) with a detection limit of 0.03 ng mL(-1) for AFB(1). It was successfully utilized for detecting AFB(1) in herbal medicine samples, demonstrating its reliability for real sample detection and potential applications in drug and food quality control, pollutants monitoring, and medical diagnosis.

Summary: The annual rabies vaccination coverage in dogs in Japan is declining and likely to be lower than reported. A survey of dog owners identified factors associated with dog rabies vaccination, including owner education level, knowledge about mandatory vaccination, access to veterinary services, and vaccination advice from veterinarians. Improving owners' knowledge, facilitating attachment to veterinary clinics, and providing vaccination advice may increase dog rabies vaccination uptake.

Summary: This study developed two serological methods, Dot-ELISA and AuNP-ICTS, for detecting Maize chlorotic mottle virus (MCMV). Dot-ELISA was found to be 12.1 times more sensitive than the conventional RT-PCR method, while AuNP-ICTS was a rapid and user-friendly point-of-care test strip that could detect the virus in just 10 minutes.

Summary: Traditional healing plays an important role in dog bite and rabies management in many countries. In Gujarat, India, the Hindu goddess Hadkai Mata is worshipped as the Mother of Rabies. Through interviews with healers and staff of Hadkai Mata temples, this study found that while people believe in the goddess's power to cure rabies, there is also some understanding of the biological processes of the disease. Patients often delay getting conventional post-exposure prophylaxis in favor of traditional treatment. Some reluctance towards mass dog vaccination was also observed. Addressing these cultural perceptions is crucial for effective control of dog rabies.
