Summary: The hydroxyl radical is an important player in the oxidative degradation of organic pollutants and electron transfer in natural and engineered environmental processes. However, using tert-butyl alcohol as a scavenger can lead to the generation of secondary peroxyl radical, impacting the oxidation of transition metals like Mn.

Summary: The use of tert-butyl alcohol for thelyophilizationof pharmaceuticals has increased recently. This study investigates the interactions between tert-butyl alcohol and two proteins (lactate dehydrogenase and myoglobin), as well as various excipients. The results show that tert-butyl alcohol has a detrimental effect on protein recovery and no combination of excipients yields satisfactory results when the organic solvent is present.

Summary: Amorphous solid dispersions can improve the solubility of poorly soluble drugs, and stable formulations can be achieved by using polymers as excipients. This study demonstrates the applicability of polyvinyl alcohol in spray-dried solid dispersions, which can generate ASDs with targeted dissolution profiles and enhanced drug-loading capacity.

Summary: The study demonstrates the use of Fe3O4 nanoparticles supported on carbon nanotubes for enzymatic redox reactions. The combination of this material with an aldo-keto reductase enables the efficient synthesis of optically pure compounds. Compared to previous biocatalytic approaches, this nanozyme-enzyme process is more efficient and does not require additional substrates or enzymes for assistance.

Summary: The research found that adding SWCNT solutions decreased the plastic viscosity of cement paste but increased yield stress, as well as improving compressive and flexural strength. Although cement paste with SWCNT dispersed by AEA showed lower mechanical strength than that dispersed by DOC, it is still feasible for use as a dispersing agent due to its higher mechanical strength compared to plain cement paste.

Summary: The sense of smell has been used for diagnostics throughout human history, and animals have been used to diagnose various medical conditions. In recent years, electronic and optical noses have gained interest in the diagnosis and classification of bacterial infections. This study presents the development of a near-infrared optical sniffer comprised of peptide-encapsulated carbon nanotubes for bacteria detection and classification. The sensors successfully distinguished between different odors and demonstrated the possibility of antibiotics susceptibility testing.

Summary: This study reports a simple method to promote bubble detachment from an electrode surface and reduce the overpotential of the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis (AWE). By adding tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), the ohmic resistance and diffusion resistance induced by bubbles attached to the electrode surface were alleviated, resulting in a drastic reduction in overpotential at high current densities. The tertiary alcohol effect was stable over several hours and did not produce any detectable decomposition products.

Summary: Infrared spectroscopy shows that perfluoro tert-butyl alcohol (TBF) forms hydrogen bonded hetero dimers with hydrogenated alcohols (Methanol, 1-butanol and Tert-butanol) in the gas phase at room temperature. DFT calculations confirm these findings providing structures, stabilization energies and allow a first analysis of the nu(OH) spectra by considering only the diagonal term of the anharmonicity of the vibration. The discussion of the broad band-shapes of nu(OH) vibration of the TBF molecule engaged in the heterodimer takes into account vibrational phase relaxation.

Summary: A copper (II) Schiff base complex supported on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-Cu) has been successfully prepared and characterized. The complex was used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol derivatives to benzaldehydes. The optimized reaction conditions were found to be 1,4-Dioxane as solvent, 1 mmol of tert-BuOOH as oxidizing agent, and 0.05 g of MWCNTs-Cu as a catalyst at 80 degrees C. The catalyst showed good reusability without significant loss of its activity.

Summary: In this paper, the catalytic activity of a dioxo-molybdenum (VI) unsymmetrical Schiff base complex immobilized on CoFe2O4@SiO2 core-shell nanoparticles was studied. The results showed that the catalyst exhibited good performance in the selective oxidation of alcohols under solvent-free conditions. The effect of different oxidants and catalyst quantities on the oxidation of benzyl alcohol was also investigated, and the catalyst could be conveniently removed and reused without significant loss of its catalytic performance.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between long-term exposure to carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and chronic inflammation. Chronic peritonitis with fibrosis was observed in mice injected with Taquann-treated multiwalled CNT (T-CNT), but not in mice injected with Taquann-treated titanium dioxide. In vivo and in vitro experiments suggest that MMP-12-producing macrophages play a key role in chronic inflammation caused by T-CNT exposure.
