Summary: This study found that mixed proximal and distal thrombosis, diabetes mellitus, late initiation of antithrombotic therapy, and high fibrinogen levels are independent risk factors for residual venous thrombosis (RVT) in patients with post-traumatic deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Therefore, treatment regimens for patients with post-traumatic DVT can be adjusted according to the site of thrombosis, the presence of diabetes mellitus, and the level of fibrinogen, and antithrombotic therapy can be started as early as possible after the detection of thrombosis to prevent the development of RVT and its serious complications.

Summary: This study evaluated an RVO-based management strategy and found that RVO was associated with recurrence, PTS, arterial events, and cancer in patients with DVT. D-dimer levels measured 1 month after stopping anticoagulant therapy provided further insight into the management strategy.

Summary: Compared to patients with isolated DVT, those with concomitant SVT in lower-limb deep vein thrombosis have a higher risk of subsequent pulmonary embolism, but no significant differences in rates of recurrent DVT, major bleeding, or death.

Summary: Based on a retrospective analysis of patients with spinal cord injury from 2016 to 2020, Asian patients with spinal cord injury have a low incidence of below-knee deep vein thrombosis and a favorable natural history of the condition, recommending serial imaging over anticoagulant therapy for these patients.

Summary: Vein recognition has gained attention due to its high security and reliability. Traditional vein recognition systems have issues such as uneven illumination, low contrast, and high inter-class similarities. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been successful in large-scale image recognition tasks, motivating the use of CNNs to design a robust and discriminative vein recognition system.

Summary: In this study, researchers investigated the mechanism of action of intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) devices on deep vein thrombosis (DVT) using microfluidic chip methodology. The results showed that increasing compression pressure and reducing time intervals can accelerate blood flow rate and shear stress within the vein, reducing thrombosis formation. This study is important for further standardization and optimization of IPC devices in clinical usage.

Summary: Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a part of venous thromboembolism (VTE) that presents as swelling and pain in the lower limbs. The most serious complication of DVT is pulmonary embolism (PE) with high mortality. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of DVT is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment as patients usually show clinical symptoms after thrombus formation.

Summary: IDDVT patients were more likely associated with recent surgery, major trauma, or confinement, while PDVT patients were more likely unprovoked, had a prior history of VTE, or active cancer. During follow-up, there was no significant difference in VTE recurrence or major bleeding between groups, but IDDVT patients had a higher mortality rate, which was positively impacted by DOAC therapy that also led to lower rates of VTE recurrence, major bleeding, and death in both groups.

Summary: Iliac vein stenting is a safe and effective procedure for correcting iliac vein stenosis, but one major complication is the formation of iliac vein stent thrombosis. This study found that some patients developed early partial in-stent thrombosis. Patients with ASA scores of 2 or 3 were more likely to develop partial thrombosis, while male gender was associated with partial thrombus resolution.

Summary: This study compared the clinical characteristics and 90-day outcomes of cancer patients with lower-limb isolated superficial vein thrombosis (SVT) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and found that the risk for subsequent venous thromboembolism (VTE) was similar in both groups.

Summary: This study, using a health insurance database in Taiwan, found an association between benzodiazepine use and an increased risk of deep vein thrombosis, with a dose-dependent relationship. It highlights the importance of evaluating benzodiazepine prescription to reduce the risk of developing DVT.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive overview of upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT), covering its epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, presentation, complications, evaluation/diagnosis, and treatment. UEDVT accounts for 6% of DVT cases, with potential complications including pulmonary embolism. Evaluation typically involves Constans score and fibrin degradation product testing, while diagnosis is usually made through compression ultrasound.

Summary: This study established and validated a nomogram for predicting the risk of early IDDVT in AIS patients, based on independent risk factors including age, gender, lower limb paralysis, current pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, and malignant tumor. The nomogram showed high predictive accuracy in both training and validation cohorts, with AUROC values of 0.767 and 0.820 respectively.
