Summary: The study aimed to investigate the interaction between cation exchange resins and verapamil hydrochloride. Uptake studies showed that the resin with the lowest cross-linking had the highest uptake capacity. XRD, SEM, and particle size analysis confirmed the amorphous nature of the drug-resin complexes. Release studies demonstrated that conventional dissolution testing did not maintain sink conditions and that increasing the volume of samples withdrawn and fresh dissolution medium added significantly increased the drug release. The diffusion of exchanging cations through the liquid film was determined to be the rate-limiting step.

Summary: This study investigated the individual contribution of mannitol, leucine, and trehalose on protein physical stability in spray-dried solids. The results showed that trehalose had a positive impact on protein stability, while mannitol and leucine had different effects on protein stability. Advanced solid-state characterization techniques were pivotal in understanding the physical stability of spray-dried protein solids.

Summary: In recent years, the presence of nitrosamines in drug products has become a regulatory concern. This manuscript provides an industry perspective on nitrosamines research with a focus on Nnitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in metformin hydrochloride sustained-release tablets (MET). The manuscript identifies the key factors contributing to NDMA formation in MET and proposes strategies to mitigate the risk of nitrosamine formation in finished drug products, such as avoiding excipients with nitrite, nitrate, and peroxide impurities, and maintaining appropriate formulation conditions.

Summary: Na-attapulgite was successfully used as an excipient to prepare domperidone sustained-release tablets in this study. The compatibility between Na-attapulgite and domperidone was investigated, and it was found that there was no interaction between the two. The tablets met the requirements of the United States Pharmacopoeia and showed improved release performance when Na-attapulgite was used as an excipient. Additionally, the doping of Na-attapulgite enhanced cell compatibility and cell activity.

Summary: Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are important transmembrane proteins that facilitate the transport of substances across cell membranes. In this study, the role and function of the ABC-B transporter STE6-2p in the methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris were investigated. The findings suggest that STE6-2p can transport rhodamines in vivo and remain active in the presence of verapamil and triazoles in vitro. Additionally, the high-resolution structures of an ABC transporter from P. pastoris in the apo conformation and in complex with verapamil and adenylyl imidodiphosphate (AMP-PNP) provide insights into a potential sterol-binding site of unknown function.

Summary: This research focused on a single-step preparation of coamorphous tablet during injection molding and mechanistic characterization. The results showed that coamorphous tablet had enhanced dissolution compared to pure loratadine amorphous, and the physical stability was correlated with the interaction strength between loratadine and acids. Terahertz spectra played an important role in detecting molecular mobility and crystallization propensity in the coamorphous system.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of a RuO2 support on the activity of Pd nanoparticles during formic acid oxidation, comparing it with Pd/C. Contrary to previous reports on enhancing effects of RuO2, our findings reveal a negative impact of the RuO2 support on the activity of Pd nanoparticles for formic acid oxidation. The formation of CO2 at low potentials and the absence of adsorbed CO signals suggest that the oxidation of formic acid on Pd/RuO2 and Pd/C occurs through a direct pathway without significant contribution from a bifunctional mechanism involving OH species on the oxide support surface. The detrimental effect of the RuO2 support on activity is likely a result of metal-support interactions altering the electronic properties of Pd.

Summary: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) obtained from photographic waste were synthesized and electrodeposited onto an epoxy-graphite composite substrate. The modified electrode showed improved electrochemical properties compared to the unmodified electrode, with lower charge transfer resistance, more kinetically favored electron transfer, and increased active area. The presence of AgNPs on the carbonaceous surface was confirmed by SEM and Raman spectroscopy. The modified electrode demonstrated enhanced analytical performance for Pb2+ detection, with a wider linear range, lower detection limit, and increased sensitivity compared to the unmodified electrode. The method was successfully applied to real water samples with varying levels of Pb2+. The reuse of silver waste provides an effective and low-infrastructure solution for electrochemical sensing applications.
