Summary: We have designed silicon-compatible vertical Germanium pin photodiodes structured into all-dielectric metasurfaces. Fabricated on silicon-on-insulator wafers, our proof-of-principle metasurfaces show high spectral selectivity and absorption efficiencies comparable to bulk Germanium layers. The lateral geometry of our metasurface structures can be tailored to the target wavelength, enabling applications such as spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging in a low-cost electronic-photonic integrated circuit.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated multilayer Moire superlattices with only one twisted interface and systematically studied their twist-angle dependent optical properties. The results showed that the twisted multilayers exhibited higher photoluminescence intensity and tunable interlayer coupling, indirect bandgap, and degree of circular polarization.

Summary: Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks with reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs) play a crucial role in meeting increasing bandwidth and routing flexibility demands. The wavelength selective switch (WSS) is a key component in all commercial ROADM systems, with Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) technology dominating current installations. WSS designs are becoming more specialized for various applications.

Summary: Metasurfaces were optimized using quasi-freeform structures with adjustable structure parameters to manipulate wavefront shaping. By collectively optimizing these parameters, desired wavefront shaping objectives can be achieved. The versatility and feasibility of the method were demonstrated through the design of deflectors and high-efficiency beam splitters with wide-angle capabilities. The proposed beam splitters achieved total splitting efficiencies exceeding 89.4%, with a highest efficiency of 97.6%, a maximum splitting angle of 75.6 degrees, and a splitting uniformity of 0.33%.

Summary: This report systematically studies the mixed polymorph and binary integration of MoO3 multilayer structures. The microstructure and surface analysis of the deposited films were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The optical bandgap of the films falls in the UV region, which can potentially be developed as selective wavelength optical filters to control unwanted UV radiation distribution.

Summary: This paper presents the design, assembly, optimization, and characterization of a twin 1x35 wavelength selective switches (WSSs) using a highly dispersive silicon grating prism (GRISM). The compact WSS reduces the footprint by over 50% while maintaining key performance metrics such as insertion loss, spectral coverage, passband, isolation, etc. It is the most compact high port count WSS demonstrated to date.

Summary: The increase in communications network traffic has created a need for larger transmission capacity. The combination of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and space-division multiplexing (SDM) is being investigated to meet this demand. Multi-core fiber SDM systems offer increased network flexibility and proportional transmission capacity to the number of SDM channels. However, the increase in input/output ports poses challenges. The spatial and planar optical circuit (SPOC) technology allows for the integration of multiple WSSs and filters, contributing to device miniaturization.

Summary: This study investigates all-optical wavelength conversion based on four-wave mixing in highly nonlinear fiber using pump lights generated from optical combs and SSB modulation. It achieves wide wavelength selectivity and highly precise frequency controllability. The experimental results show that the use of generated pump lights for FWM leads to clear constellations and low bit error rates.

Summary: This method proposes a way to design multilayer diffractive optical elements (MLDOEs) in order to improve the polychromatic integral diffraction efficiency (PIDE) in wide angles of incidence. By analyzing the characteristic angle weighted PIDE in various angles of incidence, the optimal microstructure height combination of MLDOE can be identified, leading to significant improvements in PIDE in wide angles of incidence.

Summary: Optical sensors have great potential for biological analysis and early disease diagnosis. However, the current calibration process introduces measurement errors. This study proposes a calibration-free sensor based on optically controlled terahertz metasurface, achieving high-precision biosensing detection and eliminating measurement errors, which can be used for monitoring the cancerous process of gastric cells.
