Summary: Sensory properties of food, such as taste, smell, and texture, play a crucial role in determining likes and dislikes, guiding food choices, and influencing intake behavior. Taste intensity and duration, as well as fat content, have been shown to impact energy intake. Understanding how sensory cues moderate intake can help improve dietary behavior and prevent overconsumption of calories.

Summary: The study found that the presence of a partner can influence unfamiliar food intake, with individuals in pairs more likely to try all types of unfamiliar snacks. Social motivations such as risk-taking and conformity may play a role in affecting unfamiliar food intake in co-eating situations.

Summary: Different neuromodulatory systems, particularly the endocannabinoid system, are involved in long-term energy balance and body weight regulation. Further investigation on the transcriptional regulation of the gene encoding type-1 cannabinoid receptors is essential in understanding the development of obesity and eating disorders.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between eating behaviors and food security status on dietary intake during pregnancy. The findings suggest that there is an interaction between dietary restraint and food security on added sugar intake, and external eating and lower dietary restraint are associated with higher fat intake. Additionally, living in a food insecure household is associated with lower fruit and vegetable intake.

Summary: The meanings people attribute to food, such as social, moral, health, aesthetic, and sacred meanings, have a significant impact on their food consumption behavior. Different food meanings drive different consumption patterns, with social and moral meanings relating to health-conscious behaviors, moral meanings predicting discerning behaviors, aesthetic meanings driving indulgent behaviors, and sacred meanings influencing functional behaviors. Food meaning can serve as a useful framework for understanding and analyzing patterns of food consumption.

Summary: Modifying food texture and eating slowly can reduce appetite and energy intake. This study investigated the combined effect of manipulating oral processing behaviors (OPBs) on self-reported satiety and subsequent food intake. The results showed that combining texture and instructions was most effective in reducing eating rate, but eating slower did not enhance post-meal satiety.

Summary: This review examines the association between addictive eating and nutrients, foods, and dietary patterns. The findings suggest that foods high in fat and refined carbohydrates are commonly associated with addictive eating. Individuals with addictive eating tend to have higher intakes of energy, carbohydrates, and fats compared to those without addictive eating. However, due to the heterogeneity among studies, it is challenging to determine if specific foods or dietary patterns facilitate the addictive process. Further research is needed to explore potential associations. In the meantime, personalized dietary advice targeting foods high in fat and refined carbohydrates could be incorporated into current treatment approaches for addictive eating.

Summary: The study found that compared to healthy peers, children with autism spectrum disorder have more feeding problems in early infancy, including shortened breastfeeding time, delayed introduction of dairy products, needing more trials to introduce new foods, delayed introduction of solid and lumpy foods, longer duration of bottle feeding, delayed attempts to eat using own hands, and needing greater parental support to divert their attention from food during eating.

Summary: The study did not find evidence for differences in the effects of different conditions on satiety and eating speed. Future research could consider testing the impact of rating fullness on multiple meals over a longer period. Additionally, although some weak evidence was found that levels of satiety responsiveness may influence the effects of the manipulation, only a weak relationship with eating speed was identified.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties and factorial structure of the Addiction-like Eating Behaviors Scale (AEBS) in an Italian sample, and to assess its measurement invariance across clinical and nonclinical populations. The results indicated that the AEBS-IT is a valid and reliable measure of addictive-like eating behaviors.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major public health concern and is closely related to liver-related and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In addition to high total energy intake and unhealthy consumption of processed foods, the timing of energy intake throughout the day has been shown to be an important determinant of individual risk for NAFLD and metabolic conditions. This review summarizes the available data on dietary patterns and metabolic disease, highlighting the negative effects of irregular meal patterns, skipping breakfast, and night-time eating on liver health. It also explores the potential benefits of manipulating energy intake timing and fasting on metabolic health.

Summary: Parental reward-based eating drive is associated with children's food consumption, especially in providing ultra-processed foods. The healthfulness of the home food environment plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between parental reward-based eating drive and child-focused food behavior.

Summary: Restrictive diet therapies for weight control have low adherence rates in obese patients, especially in stressed individuals. Intermittent fasting (IF) has emerged as an option to treat obesity and has shown positive effects on energy intake, adipocyte size, and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis function, leading to weight loss even in stressed rats.
