Summary: This study analyzed the prevalence of CHMAs and their age-related differences in dairy cattle admitted to a veterinary teaching hospital. The results showed that CHMAs were highly prevalent in cattle and showed age-specific patterns, with calluses on the carpi and hocks being the most common CHMAs in cattle over 24 months old.

Summary: This survey aimed to determine the prevalence of vitiligo and explore the relationship between sociodemographic and clinical characteristics with quality of life. The results revealed a potentially higher prevalence rate of vitiligo than previously reported, and the quality of life of patients was impacted by the progression and extent of the disease.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD), and found that the prevalence of NAFLD in AD patients was comparable to that in patients with a previous diagnosis of in situ melanoma. The results suggest that the Th2-type inflammation characteristic of AD is not a risk factor for NAFLD. Therefore, it is recommended to screen patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, but not those with AD, for NAFLD and other metabolic comorbidities.

Summary: This study demonstrated the antitumor activity of multiple compounds against melanoma, with O7K showing the most significant results. The tested compounds inhibited melanoma metastases and reduced the risk of drug resistance in tumors, with O7K showing the strongest antitumor activity according to the multiple-criteria decision analysis.

Summary: A series of isoxazole compounds with immunomodulatory activity were tested on A375 melanoma cells and showed multidirectional antitumor activity, including binding to P-glycoprotein, induction of free radical formation and DNA damage, leading to cancer cell death. Some compounds exhibited pro-apoptotic activity, and the most active compound induced apoptosis through three distinct pathways and acted synergistically with doxorubicin.

Summary: Dermoscopy is valuable for diagnosing palmoplantar psoriasis and eczema, with fewer differences in dermoscopic features between the two. White scales and regular dots and globular vessels indicate psoriasis, while yellow scales and irregular atypical vessels suggest eczema in the palmoplantar region.

Summary: A national survey in Australia found that child maltreatment is common in the country, with larger proportions of women than men reporting having experienced sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. The reported prevalence of physical abuse and sexual abuse is lower among the 16-24 age group compared to the 25-34 and 35-44 age groups, suggesting recent declines in these types of maltreatment.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the diagnostic utility of elastic tissue staining by Verhoeff-Van Gieson (VVG) method and trichoscopy in diagnosing end-stage primary cicatricial alopecia (PCA). The results showed that VVG staining had a certain sensitivity for diagnosing lichen planopilaris (LPP), discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), and unclassified PCA (UPCA), and had a high concordance rate with clinicopathological diagnosis. Trichoscopy also showed correlation with patterns on VVG staining.

Summary: The prevalence of skin diseases among community-based primary school-age children was investigated, with postinflammatory hyperpigmentation being the most common skin disease. It was found to be associated with acanthosis nigricans and insect bite reaction. Lowering BMI may reduce the risk for postinflammatory hyperpigmentation and acanthosis nigricans. Education on common skin diseases is recommended for both community-based schools and school-age children.

Summary: Phytochemicals, including flavonoids, are naturally occurring compounds found in plants and have various beneficial effects on the human body. Flavonoids, belonging to the phenolic class, have potent pharmacological effects as modulators of multiple signal transduction pathways. They exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, and anticarcinogenic properties. Flavonoids are widely used in nutrition, pharmaceuticals, medicine, and cosmetics. In this review, we discuss the positive impact of flavonoids on chronic skin diseases such as vitiligo, psoriasis, acne, and atopic dermatitis.

Summary: In this pilot study, the possibility of diagnosing inflammatory skin diseases from an immunological perspective was explored. Significant differences in the expression of inflammatory markers were detected between lesional and perilesional biopsies, indicating the potential of inflammatory signatures as diagnostic differentiators and alternative targets in anti-inflammatory treatment strategies.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics of BP180NC16a autoantibody-positive mucous membrane pemphigoid. The results showed that BP180NC16a reactivity was associated with the clinical phenotype characterized by only oral mucosal lesions or combined oral mucosal and skin lesions. BP180NC16a autoantibody might be useful as a serum marker to predict low-risk mucous membrane pemphigoid.
