Summary: This study stratified individuals with lifetime major depressive disorder (MDD) based on their clinical characteristics and found that poor wellbeing in these patients is associated with subthreshold manic/irritable mood fluctuations and personality traits of irritability and neuroticism. The study results may reflect the characteristics of participants in the UK Biobank.

Summary: This study identified three classes of child maltreatment, including Neglect and Adverse Parental Behaviors Class, Physical Abuse Class, and Sexual Abuse Class. Membership in different maltreatment classes was associated with increased risk of developing depression and post-traumatic stress symptoms in the future for youth.

Summary: This study examined the heterogeneity of hopelessness among Chinese college students during COVID-19, and found three distinct sub-groups based on emotion, motivation, and cognition. The severity of depression varied among these sub-groups, with traumatic experiences being a risk factor for higher levels of hopelessness. These findings have important implications for targeted interventions and mental health support in college students.

Summary: Noncompliance is a common issue in randomized clinical trials, and it raises questions about analytical objectives and approaches. This paper discusses the estimation of average treatment effect (ATE) in randomized trials with all-or-none compliance, considering confounding as a major challenge. Various estimation methods based on different modeling assumptions are described and compared, including the use of instrumental variables and incorporation of auxiliary covariate information. These methods are applied to the Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial (MRFIT) and evaluated through simulation.

Summary: This study used latent class analysis to identify four subgroups within a population of mothers in Sydney, Australia, based on factors like language, smoking status, and involvement with Family-and-Community Services. The results showed that socially stressed mothers were more likely to experience antenatal and postnatal depressive symptoms compared to local and not socially stressed residents.

Summary: This study used Latent Class Analysis to examine the co-occurrence of prolonged grief disorder and depression in bereaved individuals in a non-Western sample. Three latent classes were identified, with age, time elapsed since loss, continuing bond, relationship with the deceased, and spiritual beliefs being differential predictors of class membership. The study enhances our understanding of PGD symptomology outcome according to the newest DSM-5 criteria in non-Western contexts, highlighting the importance of sociocultural frameworks in grief management.

Summary: This study explores the interplay between attitudes and behaviors related to flood risk awareness and structural flood protection in two communities in the Eastern Italian Alps. The results show that there is a group of residents characterized by low risk awareness and high trust in structural flood protection, and this group's size substantially increased over time. This has implications for local risk managers, highlighting the need for targeted risk communication campaigns for different groups of residents.

Summary: The French government issued national lockdown and stay-at-home orders to contain the spread of COVID-19. During the lockdown, people spent less time on social media, and anxiety and depression scores showed a gradual increase. Younger individuals and females were more susceptible to these mental health issues and require additional support.

Summary: This study identified differences between individuals with and without depression regarding demographic and socioeconomic variables, health behavior, health status, health care utilization, and self-rated health (SRH) to identify the depressed group's SRH trajectories. The depressed group had a lower mean SRH than the non-depressed group among most variables.

Summary: Subgrouping methods can help support treatment decision making for patients with depression. The study identified seven profiles of depression patients, with profiles showing higher symptom severity and longer durations of anxiety and depression at baseline being at higher risk of relapse and chronic depression. Patients in profile five may benefit more from psychological therapies compared to other treatments.

Summary: Researchers are studying circadian rhythms and their impact on disease through metabolomics. They develop a statistical approach to characterize 24-hour patterns in metabolites, using a latent class model to incorporate variation in shape, amplitude, and phase across metabolites. By fitting the model to data from participants, they identify different 24-hour rhythms, with one being sinusoidal and the other more complex. This modeling framework can separate endogenous circadian rhythms from exogenous diurnal patterns in human metabolism.

Summary: The study identified three distinct profiles of depressive symptoms among high-risk women, including generally asymptomatic, elevated symptoms of comorbid anxiety and depression, and somatic symptoms. Financial security and greater social support were protective factors, while menstrual irregularity and stronger expression of neurovegetative symptoms characterized the different classes.

Summary: This study used latent class analysis to identify different subtypes of depression, including dissociative depression. Patients with dissociative depression exhibited more severe psychopathology and higher severity in post-traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other symptoms compared to other subtypes. Additionally, this subgroup showed difficulties in emotion regulation.
