Summary: The study evaluated the impact of the kidney donor risk index (UK-KDRI) on pediatric kidney transplantation in the UK. It found that UK-KDRI was not associated with allograft survival in pediatric patients, while factors such as age, ethnicity, pre-transplant dialysis, and HLA mismatch had significant effects on pediatric kidney transplantation.

Summary: This study found an association between pre-transplant hypoalbuminemia and early post-transplant outcomes. Patients with hypoalbuminemia had similar post-transplant outcomes to those with normal albumin, but with a lower risk of acute rejection.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of prehabilitation on the postoperative outcomes of heart transplantation and its cost-effectiveness. The results showed that prehabilitation significantly improved patients' preoperative functional capacity and quality of life, while reducing the rate and severity of postoperative complications, mechanical ventilation time, ICU stay, total hospitalization stay, and the need for transfer to nursing/rehabilitation facilities after discharge. Cost-consequence analysis demonstrated that prehabilitation did not increase the total surgical process costs.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy. The results demonstrated that the severity of CKD was associated with overall complications and outcomes after the surgery. Therefore, the classification of CKD should be strongly considered in preoperative risk stratification for these patients.

Summary: This study evaluated endotrophin (ETP) as a prognostic marker in kidney transplant recipients. It found that ETP levels in the blood on the first day after transplantation were strongly associated with delayed graft function, while ETP levels in the urine at the third month after transplantation were significantly correlated with kidney graft function at twelve months. The measurement of collagen type VI formation could aid in predicting graft function in kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: After kidney transplantation, dynamic changes occur in iron storage. The study found that high iron status, indicated by high TSAT levels, increases the risk of graft failure or kidney functional deterioration in kidney transplant patients.

Summary: This study utilizing data from ANZDATA registry highlighted the association between prevalent vascular disease and peritoneal dialysis as a pretransplantation dialysis modality with poorer outcomes in kidney transplant recipients aged 65 years and older. Careful selection and evaluation of potential candidates may improve graft and patient outcomes in older patients.

Summary: Kidney transplantation improves blood pressure levels for kidney transplant recipients without affecting donors. This study evaluated the changes in ambulatory blood pressure levels and trajectories in recipients and donors after kidney transplantation. The results showed a significant reduction in blood pressure levels for recipients at 3 and 12 months post-surgery, while there were no significant changes in donors.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between pretransplant physical frailty, postoperative delirium, and short-term lung transplantation outcomes. The study found that lower pretransplant physical frailty was associated with a lower incidence of postoperative delirium, and that postoperative delirium was associated with fewer days alive outside of the hospital.

Summary: Older kidney transplant recipients are at higher risk of hospitalization and AKI, mainly due to infections and surgical complications. Hospitalization and AKI significantly impact graft survival, highlighting the importance of addressing comorbidities and risks in the pre-transplant and outpatient setting.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of CMV infection in the chronic phase after kidney transplantation and found that 10-20% of patients had CMV infections in each year after transplantation. The study also showed that CMV viremia in the chronic phase was significantly associated with graft loss.
