Summary: Cognitive function training interventions in elderly patients with MCI led to significant improvements in MMSE and MoCA scores, with the intervention group showing higher scores. Both groups saw increased ADL and BI scores in the intervention group, as well as significantly lower serum levels of NSE and S100 beta. Overall, the cognitive training program improved cognitive and daily living abilities in elderly patients with MCI.

Summary: Through analyzing data from Finnish population-based Health 2000 and follow-up Health 2011 surveys, this study found that tooth loss is associated with cognitive decline and incident dementia. Tooth loss (<20) was significantly associated with lower baseline overall cognition, 11-year cognitive decline, and higher 15-year dementia risk. The role of dentures in this association should be further explored.

Summary: This study finds an association between poor oral health and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Hispanic/Latino immigrants. The age at immigration has a modifying effect on this association, with a greater impact of tooth loss on MCI in immigrants who arrived in the United States at ages 35-49 years.

Summary: This study aims to explore the relationship between exposure to organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) and cognitive impairment in the elderly population. Through a case-control study based on the Shenzhen Aging-related Disorder Cohort, it was found that specific m-OPFRs metabolites in urine samples were positively associated with lower cognitive function. Additionally, a nonlinear dose-response relationship between urinary BDCIPP concentration and cognitive decline was observed.

Summary: Multiple studies have shown a positive association between missing teeth and cognitive impairment. However, this study, using a natural experiment approach, did not find a causal effect of missing teeth on early-onset cognitive impairment. The results suggest that the association between missing teeth and cognitive impairment may be due to unobserved confounding factors.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between beverage consumption and cognitive impairment. It shows that the consumption of green tea, coffee, and pure milk can protect cognitive function, while low water intake increases the risk of cognitive impairment. These associations are influenced by baseline cognitive status, gender, and A beta deposition.

Summary: This study examined the link between denture use and physical activity in elderly patients with different cognitive abilities. The results showed that wearing dentures was positively correlated with physical activity in cognitively healthy older adults, and the moderate physical activity group was more likely to wear dentures than the mild physical activity group among age-adjusted cognitively unimpaired middle-aged and older persons.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and oral health status. The results showed that AD patients had a higher number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) compared to controls, and a higher presence of Fusobacterium nucleatum. The study suggests that chronic periodontitis may be associated with AD.

Summary: This study investigated oral health care beliefs among personnel providing care to older people. The results showed that personnel working in home care had a higher tendency towards external locus of control, and those with less experience had a higher tendency as well. Male staff were more likely to have external locus of control beliefs. Therefore, it is important to ensure that home care personnel and less experienced personnel attend oral care educational sessions, and to encourage male staff to focus on oral care work.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences and perceptions of nursing and dental professionals regarding oral care cards. The participants perceived a lack of frameworks and collaboration in oral care and the use of oral care cards. Further research is needed to investigate how to develop and design oral care cards to support oral health care work.

Summary: This study aims to explore how dental clinicians recognize dental anxiety. Through interviews with dental clinicians from the public dental service of ostergotland, Sweden, the concept of "the clinical eye" was identified as the core category, where clinicians identify dental anxiety by observing changes in patients' behavior in the dental setting.

Summary: With care dependency, untreated root caries lesions (RCLs) and irregular dental visits are common. RCLs, if left untreated, could lead to pain, tooth loss, difficulties eating, and impact on general health. Therefore, there is a need for prevention and effective treatment for RCLs, and especially in those with care dependency. A systematic review was conducted to investigate the effect of domiciliary professional oral care on RCLs development and progression. Five relevant studies were identified, with four being included in the review. The participation of dental personnel performing mechanical plaque removal and fluoride, or chlorhexidine application seems beneficial for care-dependent older adults with risk of RCLs development and progression. However, future studies are needed.
