Summary: This study evaluated the impact of different treatment modalities and risk factors on overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with FIGO stage III endometrial cancer. The results found that the use of adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy was associated with better DFS and OS, and should be recommended for eligible patients after resection.

Summary: A cross-sectional online survey found that a high proportion of Chinese breast cancer physicians are willing to prescribe extended adjuvant endocrine therapy with aromatase inhibitors for more than 5 years, especially for postmenopausal females with higher risk. Doctors with more than 15 years of clinical experience are more likely to prescribe a longer duration of AET for low-risk patients. Half of the doctors consider intermittent letrozole as an acceptable option. Most doctors would prescribe adjuvant chemotherapy to genomic high-intermediate risk females aged <= 50 years regardless of the clinical risk classification.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of S-1 in different recurrence risk subgroups. The results showed that adding S-1 to endocrine therapy significantly reduced the occurrence of iDFS events in group 2 and group 3. In patients with 1-3 positive lymph nodes meeting the monarchE criteria, the addition of S-1 improved iDFS.

Summary: Adjuvant trastuzumab has been the standard treatment for HER2+ breast cancer since 2006, and it reduces recurrence and mortality. This study analyzed the real-world health outcomes of patients treated with adjuvant trastuzumab in the past 15 years at one center in Spain. The results showed that the treatment improved overall and disease-free survival at 5 years, but also had cardiotoxicity. Factors such as age, hypertension, radiotherapy, neoadjuvant treatment, and cardiotoxicity should be considered to optimize outcomes in clinical practice.

Summary: Adjuvant chemotherapy has a significant improvement on the overall survival of T1b and T1c breast cancer, but not on T1a breast cancer. It has different effects on grade III, hormone receptor +/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 + (HoR +/HER2+), HoR-/HER2+, and HoR-/HER2- molecular subtypes within T1b breast cancer. Adjuvant chemotherapy is beneficial for the overall survival of grade II/III and T1c breast cancer. The same results were obtained after propensity score matching. Similar results were obtained in the external validation cohort, except that adjuvant chemotherapy made a difference in grade II and T1b breast cancer of the external validation dataset.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether giving pembrolizumab both before and after surgery would improve event-free survival in patients with resectable stage III or IV melanoma. Results showed that patients who received pembrolizumab both before and after surgery had significantly longer event-free survival. Overall rating: 9 out of 10.

Summary: For patients with variant histology bladder cancers, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) or adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) can improve overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) compared with radical cystectomy alone. NAC benefits the sarcomatoid and neuroendocrine subgroups, while only the neuroendocrine subgroup shows improved CSS with AC.

Summary: This study compared the perioperative outcomes, overall survival, and treatment trends in patients with bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy and received either neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy. The findings suggest that neoadjuvant chemotherapy is associated with better overall survival and lower administration of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor when compared to adjuvant chemotherapy. Therefore, neoadjuvant chemotherapy should be considered as a treatment option for bladder cancer patients undergoing radical cystectomy.

Summary: ExteNET study showed that neratinib significantly improved invasive disease-free survival in women with early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer compared to placebo after 1 year of treatment with trastuzumab-based therapy. The final analysis revealed that overall survival rates were comparable between neratinib and placebo in the extended adjuvant setting.

Summary: A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the temporal pattern of chronic conditions after the development of breast cancer. The study found that breast cancer was associated with a significantly increased risk of leukemia, cardiomyopathy, endometrial cancer, hypothyroidism, pulmonary fibrosis, and hyperlipidemia, and these risks remained significantly elevated after more than 5 years since diagnosis. Optimal care for breast cancer survivors requires collaboration between oncologists and allied healthcare professionals.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CCRTx) followed by surgery. The results showed that adjuvant chemotherapy improved the 5-year overall survival (OS) in patients with ypT+N+ ESCC. However, it did not provide survival benefit for patients without lymph node metastasis or complete tumor response and may decrease the risk of distant metastasis.

Summary: There is no consensus on adjuvant chemotherapy for FIGO Stage I-II endometrial cancer with risk factors for recurrence. This study evaluated the efficacy of adjuvant chemotherapy in improving survival in these patients. The results showed that several factors including age, surgery, lymphadenectomy, histological type, myometrial invasion, cervical stromal invasion, and adjuvant therapy were associated with recurrence-free survival and overall survival. Patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy had similar recurrence-free survival but worse overall survival compared to those who did not.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic performance of abbreviated MRI and full-protocol MRI in evaluating breast cancer NAC response. The results showed similar intraobserver and interobserver agreement between the two protocols for both general and breast radiologists, with no significant difference in diagnostic performance. However, full-protocol MRI slightly overestimated pathologic tumor sizes compared to abbreviated MRI.

It was found that the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) on preoperative F-18-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) was independently associated with reduced long-term IDFS. Rating: 9/10

Summary: Traditional methods of identifying confounders rely on content-matter expertise and literature review, but these methods have limitations. To overcome these challenges, researchers propose a novel method based on knowledge graph, which combines computable literature-derived knowledge with biomedical ontologies for better causal feature selection. The application of this method identifies potential confounders and highlights the need for standardized databases of causal variables.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the differences in illness perceptions, focusing on perceived control and coherence, between patients with Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The results showed that MCI patients were more likely to perceive their condition as less controllable and understandable compared to T2DM patients. Therefore, healthcare professionals should consider patients' subjective perceptions of their conditions, especially in the context of disease characteristics, when discussing secondary prevention strategies for disease management.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate a model that predicts the risk of falls for nursing home residents using electronically available data from over 15,000 facilities in the United States. The model was built using a hybrid Classification and Regression Tree (CART)-logistic approach and tested with data from the Long-term Care Minimum Dataset (MDS) and drug data from skilled nursing facilities. The results showed that antidepressant medications have a significant protective association with fall risk in certain conditions. Compared to 22 other fall risk assessment tools, this novel hybrid CART-logit algorithm performed better for predicting falls within a 90-day window and utilizes easily obtainable features in nearly every facility in the United States.
