The t-BuCN-stabilized zirconacyclopropene-azasilacyclopentadiene complexes 2 are generated in situ in high yields from the Si-tethered diynes, Cp2Zr(II) species, and 2 equiv of t-BuCN via a coordination-induced Zr-C/Si-C bond cleavage and reorganization. Complexes 2 have been demonstrated to be synthetically very useful. A variety of novel Zr/Si organo-bimetallic compounds and Si/N heterocyclic compounds, such as azasilacyclopentadienes, azasilacyclohexadienes, and allenylazazirconacycles, are obtained in high yields when complexes 2 are treated with ketones, carbodiimides, alkynes, elemental sulfur (S-8), acid chlorides, or nitriles. In this chemistry, t-BuCN behaves as both an initiator and a brake/release handle to initiate and control the reaction process.

Summary: An electrochemical activation method for galactose oxidase (GOase) was developed to replace the expensive horseradish peroxidase activator in large-scale pharmaceutical processes. The study showed that the electron-transfer rates between GOase and various mediators depend on both the redox potential of the mediator and the pH. The electrochemical GOase activation method was successfully applied to the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol derivatives and other compounds, including a key step in the biocatalytic cascade for the HIV therapeutic islatravir.

Summary: A fully conjugated figure-of-eight nanohoop with a flexible molecular structure and unique cavities is synthesized, capable of forming host-guest complexes with C-60 or C-70. Computational studies demonstrate significant geometric variations and non-covalent interactions of the cavities when binding with different fullerenes.

Summary: A fluorescent polycatenated hydrogen-bonded organic framework (MEP-HOF) was developed using a C-3-symmetric rigid macrocycle as the exclusive building block. The tri-carboxylated macrocycles form supramolecular embraced pairs stabilized by intermolecular non-covalent interactions, further assembling into an interwoven three-dimensional H-bond network with a degree of catenation of seven. The MEP-HOF can be easily prepared and regenerated, and its fluorescent properties make it a sensitive sensor for nitrobenzene detection in water, with a detection limit of 61.8 +/- 2.2 ppb.

Summary: Earth-abundant Mn(iii) complexes can be used as small molecule alternatives to expensive horseradish peroxidase (HRP) for activating galactose oxidase (GOase), with low loadings and good efficacy. While an induction period is observed with Mn(OAc)(3) activation, it can be eliminated by using other Mn(iii) sources, resulting in higher product conversions.
