Summary: In this study, the formation process of hollow PdCu nanoparticles from Cu2O template nanoparticles is revealed using in situ liquid-phase transmission electron microscopy. It is shown that a polycrystalline PdCu shell forms on the template surface via a galvanic replacement reaction, while the template undergoes anisotropic etching.

Summary: Gas-involved electrochemical reactions offer viable solutions to the global energy crisis and environmental pollution. In situ techniques have gained significant attention as judicious tools for real-time monitoring of the variations in catalysts, intermediates, and products during the reaction process, providing insights into reaction mechanisms, material structures, and active sites. This review highlights the recent progress of various advanced in situ characterization techniques, such as in situ X-ray based technologies, in situ spectrum technologies, and in situ scanning probe technologies, in enhancing our understanding of heterogeneous electrocatalytic reactions. The development and applications of these techniques, along with key questions that need to be addressed, are summarized.

Summary: In this study, a flow of electrons from metallic Cu to surface carbon species was observed, leading to the proposal of an electronic metal-support-carbon interaction model. This provides a comprehensive understanding of mass and electron flow, aiding in the prediction and improvement of catalytic performance in various chemical reactions.

Summary: A two-step stratified crystallization process was observed during the cooling of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) thin films. The crystallization temperature of a thin surface layer was found to be higher than that of the bulk of the film, indicating a surface-induced process. In contrast, the underlayer of the film crystallized at a temperature near the bulk crystallization temperature.

Summary: The C-H insertion reactions of vinyl carbocations formed from vinyl trifluoromethanesulfonates by catalytic lithiated 1,3-bis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]urea have been studied. The ion-pairing between Li+-ureide-triflate and the vinyl cation affects the thermodynamic stabilities of alkyl cations. The rate-determining step is the C-H insertion of the vinyl cation intermediate.

Summary: This study used charge detection mass spectrometry to dynamically monitor the mass and charge of individual aqueous nanodrops in a size range relevant to gaseous macromolecular ion formation. The results showed the first direct observation of ion emission from aqueous nanodrops in late stages of droplet evaporation, which is important for understanding macromolecular ion formation.

Summary: The formation mechanism of the HOCO radical in a CO-H2O system was investigated using direct ab initio molecular dynamics calculations. It was found that HOCO radical can be formed from two reactions between CO and (H2O)(n)(+), with the product having zero-point energy.

Summary: In this study, two mechanical drumheads with masses of 70 picograms were deterministically entangled using pulsed electromechanics. Quantum state tomography was performed through nearly quantum-limited measurements, allowing for the direct observation of entanglement. These entangled macroscopic systems are expected to be used in fundamental tests of quantum mechanics, enable sensing beyond the standard quantum limit, and function as long-lived nodes in future quantum networks.

Summary: In this article, the researchers focus on the reactions initiated by the N-nucleophilicity of imines, especially cyclization reactions. They briefly discuss the N-nucleophilicity of different imines, possible mechanisms, catalytic strategies, and reaction types. The researchers hope that imines, as one of the basic chemical synthons in organic synthesis, will be utilized more extensively in the future by taking advantage of their N-nucleophilicity.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the observation of Rabi dynamics between the ground state and an excited state in helium atoms using femtosecond extreme-ultraviolet pulses from a seeded free-electron laser. The measured signal shows Autler-Townes doublet and avoided crossing, both fundamental phenomena in coherent atom-field interactions. By combining perturbation theory and the Rabi model, the ultrafast build-up of the doublet structure is found to exhibit quantum interference between resonant and non-resonant photoionization pathways. This study opens up possibilities for ultrafast manipulation of coherent processes at short wavelengths using free-electron lasers.

Summary: This paper reports experimental observation of electromagnetic power flow in a near-zero-index medium. The observed distribution of power flow exhibits characteristics similar to an ideal fluid. The results provide important insights into the development of ideal electromagnetic fluids and offer a tool to explore the subwavelength behavior of near-zero-index media.
