Summary: Chinese medicinal plant Atractylodes lancea has significant effects on various diseases, including COVID-19, due to its rich volatile oils. The plant is divided into two chemotypes based on volatile oil constituents: Dabieshan and Maoshan. Through advanced sequencing technologies, the molecular mechanisms of sesquiterpenoid biosynthesis in A. lancea were investigated, resulting in the identification of differentially expressed genes and terpene synthase genes. The study provides insights into the differences in terpenoid accumulation and lays a foundation for further understanding of sesquiterpenoid biosynthesis.

Summary: The viral protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) and viral ecdysteroid UDP-glucosyltransferase (EGT) have been previously thought to contribute to altered host behaviors, but this study found that they may not be essential for certain abnormal behaviors in larvae induced by Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus, suggesting an unknown core mechanism of baculovirus-induced alteration of host behaviors.

Summary: This research reports the mitochondrial genome sequences of 37 Bombyx mori strains and four B. mandarina individuals in South Korea, obtained by whole-genome sequencing and Sanger sequencing, respectively. The study reveals a significant genetic reduction in B. mori strains compared to B. mandarina, with the highest diversity found in Chinese B. mori. Chinese B. mandarina can be divided into northern and southern groups, and the northern group is suggested to be the immediate progenitor of monophyletic B. mori strains. Surprisingly, the enigmatic South Korean population of B. mandarina is closer genetically to the northern Chinese group, indicating substantial gene flow between the two regions.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of supernumerary teats (SNT) on dairy cows and identified genes associated with SNT in Chinese Holstein cows. The results showed that SNT affect immunity, inflammation, and lactation-related pathways in dairy cows. Several genes were identified as potential candidates associated with SNT.

Summary: This study investigated the gene expression control of Bombyx mori embryonic development stages using RNA sequencing, identifying key genes related to DNA replication, transcription, and various developmental pathways. The findings indicate distinct gene expression patterns in early and late embryos, with a focus on organogenesis. These results enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying embryonic development and B. mori regulation.

Summary: This study analyzed the transcriptome of high- and low-lamb tenderness samples and identified potential hepatic genes and polymorphisms affecting lamb tenderness. These findings could be used in selection programs for lamb tenderness improvement. Tenderness is a crucial meat quality trait for public acceptance of lamb consumption, and genetic improvement towards higher tenderness is pivotal for a sustainable sheep industry.

Summary: The research compares the structure and properties of Bombyx mori silk fiber, Hybrid silk fiber, and Bombyx mandarina silk fiber. It finds that Bombyx mandarina silk fiber has a higher glycine content and better breaking strength compared to Bombyx mori silk fiber, despite being finer. The study provides valuable insights for the development and utilization of these silk resources.

Summary: Waterlogging stress is a major issue affecting the growth and productivity of kiwifruits. In this study, transcriptome analysis was conducted on wild kiwifruit plants subjected to waterlogging stress. The analysis revealed a large number of differentially expressed genes, with functional enrichment in stress response, metabolic processes, molecular transport, and mitotic organization. Hypoxia-related genes and transcription factors were found to be correlated with the levels of acetaldehyde and ethanol. Differences were also observed in the promoter sequences of ADH genes between Actinidia deliciosa and Actinidia chinensis.
