Summary: Depositing a Ni-1at. % P film can facilitate the formation of multiple quintuple twin junctions, resulting in a five-fold twin structure and a pentagonal pyramid surface topology. The ability to control material structures offers opportunities for creating novel surface topologies, which can be used as arrays of field emitters or textured surfaces.

Summary: This study investigated the decomposition process of the isothermal alpha '' phase in beta-Ti alloys, and found that the resulting alpha + beta dual phase inherited the microstructural characteristics of the alpha ''(iso) phase. The research results indicate the existence of a strict variant selection rule between the decomposed alpha and beta phases, with a specific variant combination observed.

Summary: This study conducted near-atomic-scale characterization of {110} surfaces of ZIF-8 using low-dose aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that the {110} surfaces of ZIF-8 crystals have a zigzag-type termination with rhombic morphology. This experimental evidence clarifies the debated structure of ZIF-8 surfaces and provides insights into crystal growth and surface properties.

Summary: This study investigated the transdermal fate of ethosomes and transethosomes on human skin. The results showed that the vesicle penetration capability was influenced by their physical-chemical features, with different vesicles reaching different levels of the skin. This offers potential for tailored transdermal drug delivery based on specific cutaneous pathologies.

Summary: This research focuses on the influence of atomic arrangement on the electrical and catalytic properties of oxide thin films. The atomic arrangement of LiNiO2 thin films was investigated by uniaxial compression and annealing at 600℃ on sapphire substrates. Thin films with a rock-salt structure were grown using pulsed laser deposition method at room temperature. It was observed that the as-grown thin films transformed from a rock-salt to a layered structure after uniaxial compression at 600℃, and the layer thickness of the latter structure increased with increasing uniaxial compression pressure. Uniaxial compression provides a useful tool for oxide thin film research, contributing to the development of new functional oxide materials and adjustment of the atomic ordering of cation materials.

Summary: The physical properties of butter are influenced by its microstructure, and a novel observation method using AFM without pretreatment process was proposed in this study to observe the fat crystal structure. Measurements of milk fat-crystalline nanoplatelets were conducted using TEM and SAXS, revealing the thickness and structure of the fat crystals. Through this observation method, the relationship between the physical properties of butter and its fat crystal network can be discerned, benefiting the bread and confectionery industries in improving butter processing conditions.

Summary: The study found that at low He concentrations, increasing implantation temperature led to enhanced point defect recombination at RT, resulting in lower strain. However, when He concentration exceeded a certain level, thermally activated mechanisms promoting the formation of He-V complexes overcame point defect recombination, leading to increased strain and damage accumulation.

Summary: This study presents the mechanism of grain boundary motion in polycrystalline materials through novel observations, simulations, and disconnection theory. The results show that the motion of grain boundaries is coupled through disconnection motion/reactions at grain boundary triple junctions. The driving force for migration affects the mode selection, with different modes observed under chemical potential jump and stress-driven conditions.

Summary: The calcareous alga Jania sp. exhibits a highly intricate structure with helical inner pores, and each cell wall nanocrystal comprises Mg-rich calcite nanoparticles demonstrating various crystallographic orientations. This unique structure assists in preventing fracture and enhancing the alga's fracture toughness, and the presence of Mg-rich nanoparticles is also observed in another species of coralline red algae, pointing to the generality of this phenomenon.

Summary: In this study, conducting MWNT/PANI nanocomposite was successfully synthesized using in-situ oxidative polymerization at low temperatures. The physicochemical properties of the nanocomposite were characterized, and the effect of MWNT loading on the gas sensing properties for hydrogen gas was analyzed. The results showed that the addition of MWNT improved the crystallite, conductivity, stability, and morphology of the composite material. The MWNT/PANI thin film sensor demonstrated high sensitivity and fast response for hydrogen gas detection at low temperatures.

Summary: Mineral replacement reactions play a crucial role in various natural and industrial processes. In this study, the morphological evolution of aragonite and calcite during their replacement by cerussite and otavite in acidic solutions was investigated. The formation of pseudomorphic shells of cerussite and otavite was observed when reacting Pb2+ with calcite or aragonite, and when reacting Cd2+ with aragonite. Pore space at the substrate-precipitate interface and within the precipitate was found to facilitate chemical exchange between the dissolving phase and the solution.

Summary: Different synthesis approaches and conditions for misfit layer compounds (MLCs) in the ternary systems V-Se-Bi, V-Se-Pb, and V-Se-Sn were compared. The best results were achieved with NH4Cl as a crystallisation aid, moderate annealing temperatures, and longer annealing durations. The study discussed the compositions, morphology, and structure, and found that either plate-like or tubelike MLC crystals could be obtained depending on the stacking sequence of the compounds. The structural properties of MLC (PbSe)1+delta VSe2 were comparable to the corresponding ferecrystals in the literature.
