Summary: The diagnosis of central pontine hyperintensities on cranial magnetic resonance imaging can have various clinical presentations and etiologies, not limited to rapid correction of hyponatremia. It is crucial to consider different diagnoses and factors when diagnosing central pontine myelinolysis.

Summary: Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is often associated with synucleinopathy and may progress to neurodegenerative disorders. Rarely, focal lesions in the brainstem can also cause secondary RBD. In cases of atypical presentation without evidence of neurodegeneration, a lesional cause of RBD should be considered.

Summary: This study found that 22.2% of patients with intracerebral hemorrhage had asymptomatic acute ischemic lesions within 30 days of hospitalization. These lesions were typically small, multiple, primarily located in the white matter of the anterior circulation, and occasionally developed in deep watershed areas. High mean blood pressure on admission, excessive drug-induced blood pressure reduction, and larger hemorrhage may be risk factors for the development of asymptomatic AIL.

Summary: Available data suggests that at least one third of SARS-CoV-2 infections are asymptomatic. Longitudinal studies indicate that nearly three quarters of individuals who test positive via PCR but show no symptoms at the time of testing will remain asymptomatic. Control strategies for COVID-19 need to be adjusted considering the prevalence and transmission risk of asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Summary: In beta thalassemia major, higher levels of small EVs (exosomes) with altered miRNA expression were found compared to controls. Beta T-EVs induced cell apoptosis and decreased cell survival while promoting BM-MSC proliferation, particularly through the upregulation of miR-144-3p. These mechanisms may contribute to organ dysfunction and complications in beta thalassemia.

Summary: Ulcerative lesions in the small intestine are often difficult to explain, even in healthy individuals. The number of mucosal breaks in the small intestine is correlated with body mass index, Helicobacter pylori infection, and gender. In healthy subjects, 1-2 small ulcerative lesions can be considered within the normal range.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the clinical prognosis and factors after mechanical thrombectomy in patients with large cerebral infarction assessed by computed tomographic perfusion. The results showed that mechanical thrombectomy can be applied in patients with large ischemic core volumes, but patients older than 76 years with large cores are unlikely to benefit from this treatment. The threshold of cerebral blood flow < 30% is an independent factor worth evaluating in future studies.

Summary: The study used a porcine model of MI to assess the relevance of T2 MRI in identifying the salvageable myocardium compared to the true area-at-risk. The results suggest that edema may extend beyond the infarct zone across the entire ischemic region. T2-AAR was found to be more clinically significant than true AAR by perfusion territory in predicting the salvageable myocardium.

Summary: Shear wave elastography was used to assess tissue stiffness in breast lesions. The expression levels of TGF-beta 1 and its signal molecules were found to be correlated with elasticity parameters, indicating a potential role in regulating the elasticity characteristics of breast lesions. The diagnostic performance of TGF-beta 1 and its signal molecules showed good accuracy in differentiating between malignant and benign breast lesions.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) arises from the accumulation of somatic mutations and is frequently associated with pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) lesions. The debate on whether PanINs and PDACs in humans originate from acinar or ductal cells still exists. DNA methylation changes during pancreatic neoplasia can provide insights into the cell type-of-origin of PanINs and PDACs.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of e-ASPECTS software in delineating the extent of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) on brain CT scans. The results showed that the software achieved excellent or good delineation of ICH extent in 71% of cases. However, it was more likely to over- or under-estimate the extent when ICH was more extensive, intraventricular, or extra-axial.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endovascular treatment (EVT) in primary and EVT-induced secondary medium-vessel occlusions (MeVO). The results showed that primary MeVO had poorer outcomes in terms of complications, EVT efficacy, and the proportion of patients with a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) of 0-2 at 3 months compared to exclusive large-vessel occlusion (LVO). However, EVT-induced secondary MeVO showed similar safety and efficacy outcomes as exclusive LVO and had better outcomes in terms of mRS 0-2 compared to primary MeVO.

Summary: This study assessed the geographic accessibility of stroke rehabilitation facilities in Tennessee. The study found that rural counties had significantly longer travel distances and times compared to urban counties. Counties with high and medium stroke prevalence also had higher travel times and distances compared to low stroke prevalence counties. Therefore, addressing transportation barriers and implementing tele-rehabilitation are crucial for improving access to stroke aftercare in these areas.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and the severity and prognosis of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The results showed that serum ALP levels in ICH patients were significantly elevated and correlated with hematoma volume and Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score. High serum ALP levels may serve as a potential predictor for the severity and unfavorable prognosis of ICH.
