Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of early return to physical and social activity interventions on recovery outcomes in youth with concussion. The findings indicate that activity-based interventions may significantly improve concussion symptoms, but the effects on quality of life and return to preinjury activity levels are still unclear.

Summary: The study investigated the priming effect of resisted sled sprinting (RSS) on subsequent unresisted sprint (URS) performance in team field sport athletes. The results showed that URS performance declined after RSS, but there was high inter-subject variability in improvement, suggesting limited practical value of RSS-based conditioning activity (CA) for enhancing URS performance.

Summary: This research found that sympathetic recovery from a task was rapid, with cardiovascular recovery occurring within the first 30 seconds of the recovery period. Additionally, residual cardiac activity during the recovery period had predictive power for task-related cardiac activity, suggesting its usefulness as an indicator.

Summary: Modeling the interactions of competing risks that affect the occurrence of various decrements is crucial in survival analysis and actuarial science. This study discusses the conversion between probabilities of decrement and absolute rates under a general form of a distribution of fractional ages, and proposes a novel numerical algorithm for its solution. Extensive numerical experiments verify that the algorithm provides reliable results in terms of efficiency and accuracy.

Summary: The study found that in repeated sprint skating ability tests with different passive recovery durations, a three-minute recovery period was more beneficial for increasing skating speed than a two-minute recovery period for both forwards and defensemen. Defensemen were slower than forwards and had higher S-dec. No significant differences in HR response were noted between the two groups.

Summary: This study found significant differences by sex in the General Recovery and Sport Stress dimensions of the RESTQ-Sport, as well as in the Vigor factor of the POMS. Additionally, differences were observed by sport type, with individual sport athletes showing less recovery and higher stress. The Mexican adaptation of the RESTQ-Sport provides a suitable psychometric instrument for assessing recovery-stress balance in Mexican athletes.

Summary: This study presents a design strategy for wall envelopes to improve thermal performance in non-airconditioned buildings and reduce energy costs in air-conditioned buildings. Experimental measurements of building materials were used to optimize composite wall designs, resulting in substantial energy cost savings and enhanced thermal performance, particularly for laterite stone. The findings demonstrate the potential for simple design strategies to promote energy efficiency in buildings.

Summary: The Four Corners Youth Consortium was established to address the knowledge gap regarding youth concussion. This study focused on posttraumatic headache (PTH) after youth concussions, finding that PTH with a migraine phenotype is associated with persistent symptoms. Females are more likely to experience prolonged recovery compared to males.

Summary: There is substantial evidence supporting the construct of personal recovery and the value of recovery-oriented mental health care worldwide. This study aimed to understand the experiences of personal recovery and recovery-oriented care for youth, and found two developmentally unique recovery processes - restorative processes involving capability and existing relationships, and resilience processes involving protective influences and strengths. The findings align with the CHIME framework.

Summary: Intermittent fasting (IF) is commonly used by combat sports athletes for weight loss but may decrease performance. This study examined the effects of IF on body weight and Taekwondo performance. The results showed that IF led to a decrease in body weight in the first two weeks but stabilized afterwards. Performance in vertical jumping had different patterns in fed and fasted states. Despite the decrease in body weight, IF did not significantly impact performance.
