Summary: This review conducted a meta-analysis to examine the effects of attentional focus on muscular endurance. The results indicated that an external focus of attention improved muscular endurance compared to an internal focus and control. The findings have important practical implications for enhancing muscular endurance through training.

Summary: The study found that enhancing autonomy and external focus of attention did not significantly impact the first-try performance of novice learners in chest compressions and peg transfer tasks. Additionally, there were no significant differences in learners' confidence, autonomy, and workload perceptions between the enhanced and routine autonomy, and external and internal focus of attention conditions.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of children's motor imagery dominance on the relationship between attentional focus and motor learning of a tossing task. Results showed that higher levels of external-visual imagery dominance resulted in greater motor learning for children with an external focus, while higher values of kinesthetic imagery dominance led to reduced motor learning for children with an external focus. Recommendations were made for future studies to consider motor imagery modality dominance assessments when exploring the impact of attentional focus on motor learning, especially in children.

Summary: This study aimed to understand adolescents' conceptions of mental health and well-being as well as their suggestions for appropriate interventions. Focus group discussions were conducted with 91 adolescents in Belize, Kazakhstan, and South Africa. The findings showed that adolescents provided important information and solutions for improving mental health, emphasizing the need for social emotional skill development and culturally appropriate programming. They also highlighted the importance of supportive interactions with adults and recommended teacher/parent training as part of the programs.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of attentional focus instructions on performance and technique in skilled performers during an open-skill task. The findings suggest that a distal external focus is more effective than an internal focus in improving batting performance and technique. These findings highlight the need for further research on attentional focus effects between different skills within specific sports.

Summary: This study examines how athletes' attentional focus during training influences the effects of a neuromuscular training program. The findings suggest that athletes who trained with an external focus showed improvements in hip strength, single-leg landing mechanics, and hop performance, while those who trained with an internal focus did not show the same effects. Therefore, neuromuscular training programs that promote an external focus may be more effective for male athletes compared to an internal focus.

Summary: This study examines the relationships among perceived autonomy support from coaches, athletes' subjective vitality, and experiential avoidance, drawing on self-determination theory. The findings reveal that perceived autonomy support from coaches is positively associated with athletes' subjective vitality, which, in turn, is negatively associated with experiential avoidance. Furthermore, subjective vitality plays a critical mediating role in the relationship between perceived autonomy support from coaches and athletes' experiential avoidance.

Summary: Athletes often use muscle rub to heat up the muscles during warm-up as they believe this will improve their sports performance. However, a study on college athletes found that while muscle rub application on the upper legs positively enhanced explosive leg power, it did not affect flexibility or dynamic balance performances. The findings suggest that muscle rub may have limited benefits in improving overall physical performance of athletes.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate individual trial-to-trial performance in three tests to determine adaptive regulation as a key feature of expertise in nine-ball. Thirty-one male players were assigned to low-skilled, intermediate, or high-skilled groups. The study found that the high-skilled group performed better than the other two groups in two out of the three tests. However, there was no significant evidence of adaptation effect represented by decreased error distances across trials.

Summary: This study found that approximately 50% of the firefighters experienced low back pain in the past year, but most of them were still able to work. Biomechanically, there were no differences in back muscle characteristics between firefighters with and without back pain history. Back disabilities were not related to any biomechanical or demographic measures. Overall, these frontline firefighters are highly functional and did not show diminished physical or neuromuscular responses despite experiencing some back pain.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to validate the accuracy of the loadsol (R) wireless in-shoe force sensors in measuring ground reaction forces (GRF) during loaded walking in military boots. The results showed a high level of accuracy and agreement between the loadsol (R) system and the gold standard laboratory equipment. This suggests that the loadsol (R) system is a valid tool for measuring GRF during walking in military boots under heavy load carriage.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to assess the effects of foot and ankle external supports on the postural stability of individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI). The results showed that elastic orthoses, Kinesiotaping, and textured insoles demonstrated potential benefits in improving postural stability in individuals with CAI. However, the effects of semi-rigid orthoses, fibular reposition taping, and arch support insoles were inconsistent across studies. Future research should explore the long-term effects of these external supports and employ standardized outcome measures and testing protocols for assessing postural stability.

Summary: This study examines the dynamic relationship between domain-general and sport-specific gratitude in youth athletes. The findings indicate a reciprocal model between the two levels of gratitude, suggesting that higher domain-general gratitude leads to increased sport-specific gratitude, which in turn contributes to increased domain-general gratitude. This study adds to gratitude theories by uncovering the potential directional relationship for various levels of gratitude.
