Summary: In this study, different types of ZnO-based nanocomposites were fabricated and characterized. The etching of ZnO nanorods increased the surface area and defect concentration, while sulfurization of the ZnO/ZnS nanotubes reduced defects and improved surface roughness. The results indicate that ZnO and ZnO/ZnS nanotubes hold promise for sensing device applications.

Summary: In this study, the interfacial structures of CdSe/ZnS QDs were investigated using TOF-MEIS. The results showed the existence of an alloyed layer at the interface between CdSe and ZnS in typical CdSe/ZnS QDs. The dissolution of CdSe seeds during the synthesis steps was identified as the cause of this interfacial alloying, and the ligand environment of the solvent was found to influence the shape of the interface.

Summary: Cu-Based quantum dots are being explored as a potential replacement for toxic Cd- or Pb-based QDs, with studies focusing on the impact of different reaction conditions on the resulting morphologies and optical properties. By carefully controlling the ZnS shell deposition, researchers have optimized the synthesis of CIZS/ZnS/ZnS QDs and produced highly fluorescent core/shell/shell heterostructured QDs with high PLQYs. Additionally, the successful creation of giant ZnS shell QDs opens up possibilities for further development in this area.

Summary: A model of spherical quantum dot of the core/multilayer shell type, taking into account the mismatch between lattice parameters and pressure due to surface curvature, was constructed. The influence of external pressure on the band structure of a CdSe-core/ZnS/CdS/ZnS-shell quantum dot was investigated using the deformation potential method. It was found that the optical band gap width of the quantum dot can be changed in a wide range by adjusting the thickness of the shell layers and the amount of pressure. Additionally, a critical value of comprehensive pressure was observed for small CdSe QD cores, above which the value of baric coefficient decreases abruptly. The thickness of the CdS layer in the shell also affected the critical pressure.

Summary: ZnO/ZnS core/shell nanostructures were synthesized and characterized using XRD, HR-(S)TEM, and analytical TEM (EDX and EELS), and their band-gap measurements were performed using UV/Vis DRS. The experimental results were combined with theoretical modeling and calculations to gain more insights into the properties of the nanoparticles. The synthesized materials showed a unique three-phase composition, with ZnO dominating the core region and ZnS occurring in two phases (wurtzite and sphalerite) in the shell region. The theoretical calculations demonstrated advanced semiconducting properties and the potential for band-gap tuning in ZnO/ZnS structures.

Summary: Zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized via hydrothermal and solvothermal methods and coated with zinc sulfate to form ZnO@ZnS core-shell nanostructures. Various techniques were used to confirm the nanostructure and particle distribution inside the matrix. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO, ZnS, and ZnO@ZnS was evaluated, with ZnO@ZnS showing higher efficiency than pure ZnO. The complex ZnO@ZnS nanocable offers a low cost, high surface-to-volume ratio, and high reusability, making it promising for applications in solar energy conversion, water splitting, and energy storage.

Summary: An efficient method for phosphate removal from wastewater is urgently needed due to the environmental issue caused by excessive phosphorus. In this study, calcium aluminum layered double hydroxides (CaAl-LDHs) and six amino acid intercalated calcium aluminum layered double hydroxides (CaAl-amino acid-LDHs) were prepared and compared for their phosphate adsorption performance. L-Aspartic acid intercalated calcium aluminum layered double hydroxides (CaAl-Asp-LDHs) exhibited the highest phosphate adsorption capacity and faster removal rate compared to CaAl-LDHs. The phosphate adsorption mechanism on CaAl-Asp-LDHs involved electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonds, complexation, and ion exchange. This environmentally friendly material shows promising potential for efficient phosphate removal from aquatic environments.

Summary: Studying the diffusion properties of hydrogen is important for designing new proton conductors. In the past, the chemical diffusion coefficient of hydrogen in proton conductors was usually obtained through a manual calculation method, resulting in difficulty in controlling the calculation accuracy. To address this issue, a mathematical algorithm and C language computer program were developed to calculate the chemical diffusion coefficient based on Fick's second law and Romberg numerical integral. The algorithm showed high precision and powerful computing function, and has the potential to replace the manual calculation method in calculating the chemical diffusion coefficient for hydrogen in proton conductors.
