Summary: This study evaluated the kinetics of total testosterone (TT) and its predictors after discontinuation of clomiphene citrate (CC) in patients with hypogonadism. The results showed that CC is an effective option for treating male hypogonadism, although most patients require long-term treatment. Approximately one in every four patients responded well to a short trial of CC, indicating a recovery of physiological function. Further research is needed to understand the long-term TT kinetics in these patients.

Summary: This narrative review examines the benefit of exogenous luteinizing hormone (LH) supplementation in infertile women with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) or similar conditions. The evidence supports LH supplementation in women with organic or functional HH, but the effectiveness of exogenous LH in other situations is uncertain.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of CC treatment on steroid hormone levels and metabolism in males, finding that CC influenced multiple steroid levels and promoted androgen secretion, while also indicating a decrease in adrenal activity. These results offer insights into the mechanisms of CC action and its impact on steroid metabolism.

Summary: The study evaluated the association between cannabis use and testicular function, finding no clinically significant associations between cannabis use and testicular function. However, due to limited and heterogeneous studies, the potential effects of cannabis on the male reproductive system cannot be completely ruled out, and well-designed studies will be needed to further define this association.

Summary: Central hypogonadism is a clinical condition characterized by sexual symptoms and low testosterone levels due to impaired hypothalamus or pituitary function. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the standard treatment, but not recommended for men wishing to preserve fertility or those with certain health conditions. Alternative treatments such as gonadotropins, clomiphene citrate, and tamoxifen may be considered, although more research is needed on their efficacy.

Summary: Cushing's syndrome (CS) affects the gonadotrope axis and testicular functions differently depending on the intensity of hypercortisolism and underlying etiology. Excess cortisol caused by CS leads to varying degrees of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH), with more severe impairment in men with intense hypercortisolism associated with paraneoplastic/ectopic adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) secretion (EAS).

Summary: PCOS is a complex condition characterized by metabolic, hormonal, and environmental factors, along with infertility in women of reproductive age. This study compared letrozole and clomiphene citrate as ovulation inducers in infertile Sudanese patients with PCOS. The results showed comparable rates of positive pregnancy tests and similar effects on compacting ovarian cysts between letrozole and clomiphene citrate. However, letrozole had a lesser impact on follicle maturation and resulted in increased endometrial thickness compared to clomiphene citrate.

Summary: Leydig and Sertoli cells play essential roles in testicular homeostasis, and clomiphene citrate (CC) is a frequently used treatment for hypogonadal and subfertile men. While the mechanism of action of CC is thought to primarily involve inhibition of estrogen feedback on the pituitary gland, its effects on estrogen receptors and other signaling pathways at the testicular level remain poorly investigated. Further research, including combined treatments, could potentially improve sperm morphology and motility which may not be significantly enhanced by CC alone.

Summary: Energy deficit can lead to dysregulation of the male gonadal axis, lowering testosterone levels. This dysregulation is functional and generally reversible with restoration of energy balance. Clinical management should focus on restoring adequate nutrition and achieving a healthy body weight.

Summary: Adding CC/LE to IVF ovulation induction has certain efficacy in terms of low cost and low OHSS incidence. CC/LE deserves more recommendations as a responsible strategy in high responders for advantageous pregnancy outcomes, while the strategy needs to be considered with more comprehensive factors in normal responders.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness of a web-based program in supporting couples' sexual recovery after prostate cancer treatment. The program did not lead to improved satisfaction with sex life 6 months after treatment, but couples in the intervention group engaged in sexual activities sooner than those in the control group. Participants evaluated the program positively and would recommend it to others facing prostate cancer treatment.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between inflammation and depression in cancer patients. The findings suggest that peripheral inflammatory markers, such as IL-6, TNF, and CRP, are associated with depressive symptoms in various cancer settings. These results have implications for the identification and management of depression in cancer patients.

Summary: CARE-Express is an intervention developed for older adults with cancer to enhance coping and reduce psychological distress. This study evaluated the feasibility and initial efficacy of CARE-Express. The results showed that CARE-Express had positive effects on reducing depression and demoralization, as well as increasing spirituality and faith. The effects attenuated at four months, but small to moderate positive effects remained.

Summary: This study compared the screening accuracy of HADS-D and HADS-T for major depression and found no significant difference in diagnostic accuracy between the two. The shorter HADS-D would be preferred in most clinical and research settings as it not only reduces patient burden but also has equivalent diagnostic accuracy to HADS-T.

Summary: Examining older men with prostate cancer undergoing hormone therapy, the study found a positive correlation between exercise and cognitive function. Controlling for age and education, exercise remained a significant predictor for attention and executive function, with moderate, but not significant, effects on memory performance. These findings suggest that exercise may be a feasible intervention to limit cognitive dysfunction in prostate cancer patients.

Summary: The objective of this study was to identify the phenomenology of depression in older adults with cancer (OACs) in order to improve the accuracy of depression screening for this population. Qualitative analyses revealed several major and minor themes related to depression, as well as themes of adaptation and acceptance of symptoms. The findings suggest the need for assessment methods that are distinct from existing measures to better identify depression in OACs.
