Summary: Radical cystectomy has a significant negative impact on sexual function in both men and women. However, there has been limited research on female sexual function and organ preservation post cystectomy. This review aims to provide an overview of preoperative evaluation and available tools for sexual function assessment, as well as discuss various operative techniques for preserving or restoring sexual function in women after cystectomy.

Summary: Women with sexual dysfunction experience negative effects on their quality of life, self-esteem, and physical health. This study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with female sexual dysfunction through an online questionnaire. The results revealed that a significant portion of women experienced sexual disorders, such as female orgasmic disorder and genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder. The occurrence of sexual dysfunction was influenced by various factors, including sexual history, self-satisfaction, and sexual orientation.

Summary: The study found that sexual arousal may influence vaginal mucosal inflammatory cytokine and antibody production in healthy women. Women with different histories of sexual violence showed different changes in vaginal immune responses after sexual arousal, which may explain the association between sexual assault history in women and increased risk for sexually transmitted infections.

Summary: This scoping review highlights the lack of scientific research on the impacts of radiotherapy on female erectile tissues and the difficulty in designing studies due to the lack of biomedical data. Collaborative interdisciplinary research is needed to generate radiobiologic and clinical evidence to improve sexual outcomes in female patients.

Summary: The meta-analysis shows a moderate association between total testosterone and sexual desire/global sexual function in women, which is confirmed, although weak, in studies employing liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Similar results on desire were obtained for free testosterone and Free Androgen Index (FAI). DHEAS only showed a positive association with global sexual function. More research is needed.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of prolactin elevations, reductions in testosterone levels, sexual dysfunction symptoms, and distress in male participants taking prolactin-elevating antipsychotic medications. The results showed a high prevalence of sexual side effects, with gynecomastia in 50% and penile-related symptoms in 73% of participants. Elevated prolactin levels were found in 68% and low testosterone levels in 55% of participants, suggesting a correlation between hyperprolactinemia and low testosterone levels with sexual dysfunction symptoms in men taking antipsychotics.

Summary: Cardiac reserve is a widely used health indicator and prognostic tool, but assessing it in preclinical models is challenging. There is less focus on diastolic reserve compared to systolic reserve. This study aimed to determine the techniques and parameters for assessing systolic and diastolic reserves in preclinical models. The findings showed that systolic reserve can be assessed using all techniques, but current methods are ineffective for evaluating diastolic reserve in healthy mice in vivo.

Summary: The study explores the underrepresentation of individuals who experience female-perpetrated sexual assault (FPSA) in the sexual victimization literature. It reveals that most survivors of FPSA have experienced childhood and adulthood victimization, with perpetrators often being known individuals. The study also highlights the low rates of labeling FPSA as sexual assault and disclosure. Depressive and posttraumatic symptoms are common among survivors.

Summary: Research has shown that sex hormones play a critical role in sex differences, impacting the efficacy and side effects of antidepressants. Most studies demonstrate an interaction between sex hormones and antidepressants in sexual function, behavior, and alleviating depressive symptoms. However, the majority of research focuses on male subjects, highlighting the need for further investigation into the effects of antidepressants on hormone levels in both males and females.

Summary: The study found that treatment with androgens in rats can lead to masculinization of sexual motivation and behavior, while non-aromatizable androgens have a weaker effect on sexual motivation. Simultaneous actions on androgen and estrogen receptors are needed for significant masculinization during the period studied.

Summary: This review article summarizes the important evidence supporting the positive relationship between endogenous testosterone levels and sexual activity in adult males. It also provides an update on the effects of testosterone treatment (TRT) on sexual functioning in individuals with testosterone deficiency. The available data suggest that TRT can improve various aspects of sexual life in symptomatic hypogonadal men, although the effect is modest and lower in subjects with associated metabolic conditions. Lifestyle interventions and TRT can be combined to promote body composition improvement and adherence to healthier behavior in hypogonadal subjects.

Summary: In this paper, data from a clinical trial studying the impact of an on-demand drug on women with low sexual desire were analyzed. The traditional approach of aggregating data before analysis was found to have drawbacks, such as varying standard errors and implicit assumptions about item weights. A multilevel structural equation model was proposed as an alternative analysis method to address these issues.
