Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the timing of BoNT-A injection and treatment outcomes in PSS patients. The results showed that initiating BoNT-A treatment within 3 months post-stroke can lead to greater reduction in muscle tone at 1 and 3 months follow-up.

Summary: The objective of this study was to validate and characterize real-world functional behaviors in individuals after stroke. The study used ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to assess functional behaviors in real-time and found that EMA was sensitive to indicators of poststroke disability and had correlations with in-laboratory measures of daily functioning and symptoms. The findings reveal that EMA can track poststroke functioning precisely and can be beneficial in examining functional recovery and monitoring home-based interventions.

Summary: The study found that the prognostic accuracy of the PREP2 algorithm in predicting upper limb function 3 months after stroke in a subacute neurorehabilitation setting was lower, with an overall correct classification rate of 60%. Although PREP2 showed good predictive accuracy in some categories, the overall rate was significantly lower than the 75% reported by the developers.

Summary: This study assessed the changes in brain wave activity and recovery after stroke. The study found that the power-law structure in brain waves plays an important role in pathological brain states. The results showed that the Spectral Exponent (SE) is a reliable measure for evaluating neurophysiological and clinical changes after stroke, and is correlated with functional recovery.

Summary: The study developed robotic upper extremity therapy tasks for subacute stroke patients and found significant improvements in FMA UE, ARAT, FIM, and Visually Guided Reaching scores in the robotic therapy group post-intervention. However, only FIM and Arm Position Match scores improved in the control group over the same time period. The Kinarm therapy tasks show potential for improving outcomes in subacute stroke, but further studies are needed to confirm the benefits in a larger cohort.

Summary: This study explored the combined predictive influence of rehabilitation adherence and post-stroke depressive symptoms on self-care abilities and quality of life in stroke patients. The study found that patients with better rehabilitation adherence had higher self-care abilities and quality of life, and patients without post-stroke depressive symptoms had a higher quality of life. Patients with both perfect rehabilitation adherence and no post-stroke depressive symptoms had better self-care abilities and quality of life compared to those with imperfect rehabilitation adherence and post-stroke depressive symptoms.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationships between impairments in cognitive functions and recovery of functional independence in stroke patients during the subacute phase. The results identified several predictors of functional recovery, including functional status, lower limb functioning, attention, and executive functions. Patients who recovered deficits in executive functions had the same recovery as those without deficits, while those who maintained deficits had a smaller recovery.

Summary: According to WHO, 15 million people worldwide suffer from stroke annually, with 5 million deaths and 5 million permanent disabilities. This study utilized the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) data to predict functional impairment and mortality in stroke patients. Results showed that BMI, mobility, muscle strength, memory, mental status, and socioeconomic status play important roles in the long-term survival and activities of daily living (ADLs) of stroke patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of intensive rehabilitation on the long-term prognosis of patients with stroke. Through analyzing data from the National Health Insurance Service database, it was found that stroke patients who received both physical therapy and occupational therapy had a better long-term prognosis compared to those who received only one treatment. This study emphasizes the importance of intensive rehabilitation in stroke patients.

Summary: This study aims to describe the variation in neurorehabilitation content provided to young people after severe paediatric acquired brain injury (pABI) and relate it to observed functional recovery. The study found significant correlations between aspects of delivered therapy and recovery, suggesting that rehabilitation plays a role in the recovery process. However, further research is needed to understand the causal relationship between rehabilitation and recovery after pABI.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the status and related factors of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of poststroke dysphagia among neurological nurses in China. A survey was conducted among 707 neurological nurses from 40 tertiary hospitals in Southwest China. The study found that the knowledge score of neurological nurses in poststroke dysphagia was relatively low, indicating a need for improvement. However, the attitude and practice scores were much better. Therefore, it is recommended that managers and nursing researchers provide effective training to improve the knowledge, attitude, and practice of neurological nurses towards poststroke dysphagia, and ultimately improve patients' health outcomes.

Summary: This study explores engaging occupations in relation to stroke risk and identifies a paradox in the relationship between engaging occupations and health. The findings highlight the need for a deeper understanding of occupation experiences and the characteristics that promote or compromise health. Lifestyle programs should be designed to offer personal relevance and facilitate a positive balance between health compromising and health promoting occupations in everyday life.

Summary: This study aims to explore the impact of post-stroke fatigue (PSF) on the performance of everyday activities and participation in social activities among stroke survivors. The results show that most participants still experienced fatigue five years after stroke and faced difficulties in their daily activities. However, by implementing new strategies in their everyday life, they were able to alleviate their fatigue. Understanding and providing information about managing PSF early after stroke is crucial.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between home care staff's perception of job strain and individual and organizational factors. The study found that both individual and organizational factors are important predictors of job strain. Higher job strain is also associated with adverse outcomes in leadership, organizational culture and climate, and control at work. Implementing new multidimensional work strategies and policy changes for home care can support the development of a sustainable and healthy psychosocial work environment.
