Summary: The research found that having an irregular supper timing is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke mortality, while there is no significant association with mortality risk from other types of stroke, coronary heart disease, and cardiovascular disease.

Summary: Early reperfusion after endovascular thrombectomy is associated with improved outcomes in ischemic stroke patients, including elderly patients. Shorter onset-to-reperfusion times are linked to better results.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a patient-centered stroke outcome measure using the proposed Young Stroke Questionnaire (YSQ). Through reliability and discriminant validity assessments on 100 young stroke survivors, it was found that YSQ demonstrated internal consistency and reproducibility across all domains. The YSQ was significantly able to differentiate between different levels of disability in stroke patients, reflecting the impact of stroke from the perspective of young survivors.

Summary: This study examines the perception of work situation and work ability among stroke survivors who returned to work within one year after their stroke. The results suggest that most participants are satisfied with their work and perceive their work ability as sufficient, indicating the importance of support and appreciation in maintaining a sustainable work situation.

Summary: This study found that children may have higher edema formation measured by net water uptake (NWU) compared to adults, but despite this, children had better functional outcomes. The results suggest that the degree of early ischemic changes and edema progression rate may not be a reason to exclude children from endovascular thrombectomy.

Summary: The Japanese National Plan for the Promotion of Measures Against Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular Diseases was formulated on October 27, 2020. One purpose of this plan was to promote research on cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the actual status of stroke treatment in Japan and operate a national stroke database with high public interest completely and accurately.

Summary: The clinical benefit of endovascular therapy in patients with large ischemic stroke is associated with the number of recanalization attempts. At least 2 recanalization attempts improve the likelihood of favorable functional outcomes, while more than 2 attempts should be carefully assessed.

Summary: A post hoc analysis of stroke patients undergoing endovascular therapy revealed that those with premorbid disability were more likely to avoid accumulating further disability but had a higher chance of death compared to patients without disability.

Summary: This study aimed to define three core outcome sets (COS) and related core outcome measurements (COM) for stroke-related visual impairment. Through a consensus process, core outcome domains and measurement tools were identified for central visual impairment, visual field loss, and ocular motility disorders. The use of these COS and COM has the potential to reduce heterogeneity in clinical practice and improve standardization and accuracy of vision assessment. Further research is needed to evaluate the use of these COS and COM.

Summary: In winter thunderstorms in Japan, strong negative return strokes with peak currents larger than 150 kA produce electric field change waveforms different from normal return strokes, leading them to be unrecognized as return strokes by the lightning research community. These strong negative strokes are preceded by fast downward negative leaders, potentially associated with terrestrial gamma-ray flashes, and are likely superbolts observed from space.

Summary: This study examined the predictive accuracy of machine learning models for functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients. The continuous 24-hour National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was found to be an important predictor in all models, with the random forest (RF) model outperforming other machine learning models. The predictive accuracy of machine learning models was moderate to good, and further validation is needed.
