Summary: This study quantifies the impact of social and economic determinants on the probability of dying from COVID-19 in Mexico using an econometric model. The results indicate that variables related to vulnerable groups, such as poverty, lack of services, gender, age, pre-existing medical conditions, and access to water, can significantly increase the number of deaths. Therefore, it is recommended to develop more policies targeting vulnerable groups to reduce inequality gaps.

Summary: This study identified that under-five mortality rate in Guinea was 111 deaths per 1,000 live births. Factors contributing to child mortality included mothers belonging to other religions, children being smaller than average, and lack of postnatal check-ups. Conversely, children with 2-3 birth rank and > 2 years of birth interval had lower odds of death. Efforts must focus on these predictors to reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Summary: Empowerment of women in Mozambique is influenced by various socio-economic, demographic, and behavioral factors, leading to different domains of empowerment such as beliefs about violence against women, decision-making, and control over sexuality and safe sex. This indicates the importance of considering context-specific characteristics in understanding and promoting women's empowerment.

Summary: This paper explores the impact of social, political, and economic activities on the environment in 116 developing economies from 1996 to 2019. The study finds that GDP growth, the financial sector, and energy consumption contribute to increased carbon dioxide emissions, while institutional quality, ethnic diversity, and political freedom play a crucial role in reducing environmental deterioration. Policy-makers are suggested to focus on promoting social connections among ethnic groups, ensuring high-quality institutions, guaranteeing political freedom for all, and fostering inclusive financial development for a less polluted environment in these economies.

Summary: This study examines the effects of social and health indicators on the number of cases and deaths in the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that factors such as the number of tourists, population between the ages of 15 and 64, and institutionalization have a positive effect on the number of cases. Additionally, factors such as life expectancy, population over the age of 65, and CO2 have a positive effect on the number of deaths. The study also finds a non-linear relationship between the number of cases and the number of deaths.

Summary: This study aims to explore the various factors influencing agricultural farm productivity and test the hypothesis that participation in Water Users Association (WUA) activities leads to improved farm productivity. Using primary data collected from Pakistan's Sindh and Punjab provinces, hierarchical regression analysis was utilized to evaluate the statistical significance of different variable blocks. The findings reveal that water and land resource characteristics have the strongest influence on farm productivity, followed by personal characteristics of resource users and community and institutional characteristics. A negative relationship was found between landholding size and age with farm productivity, while a positive relationship was observed between resource users' level of participation in WUAs and farm productivity. However, the study highlights the importance of addressing inequities in canal water allocation and the need for meaningful institutional and land reforms to promote equitable economic benefits in agricultural systems.

Summary: Leptospirosis, a zoonotic infectious disease caused by pathogenic bacteria, shows seasonality and is influenced by socio-economic factors like human population density and agricultural production. Climatic factors have a weaker influence on the disease incidence. Future climate projections suggest a potential increase in leptospirosis cases in the Russian Arctic.

Summary: This paper examines the determinants of terrorism and its related incidents in East, South, and North Asia (ESNA), and finds that the factors vary by region. South Asia is most affected by population and state legitimacy, while East and North Asia are primarily influenced by socioeconomic disparity in education budget. The study also highlights the role of fractionalization elites in igniting terrorism incidents. The findings suggest the need for prudent and effective regional policies to address socioeconomic disparities and conflicts.

Summary: The research conducted in 10 critically eroded coastal areas in Selangor, Malaysia found that over half of households have a high level of awareness about climate change and sea level rise, while awareness about coastal hazard impacts is relatively lower. Factors such as being male, educated, involved in natural resource dependent occupations, and having prior exposure to extreme coastal hazards were associated with higher levels of awareness.

Summary: Food security is ensured by a stable food supply that can respond to unexpected shocks. A new metric, the ratio of stock to demand, is proposed to quantify how domestic food consumption can be satisfied by domestic food stock. Global food stability, measured by grain stock-demand ratio (GSDR), has increased with Asia and Africa showing the most significant progress. The increase in stability is driven by the growth of grain stock-production ratio (GSPR) and grain cropping yield (GCY), as well as the decrease in average labor input and grain crop land. However, it is pulled down by the decrease in employment in agriculture.

Summary: The economic evaluation showed that direct access to physiotherapy services could increase the number of patients receiving treatment but without additional physiotherapist capacity, waiting times would increase. Direct access to physiotherapy services would be cost-effective and beneficial for patients under the current cost per QALY thresholds used in England.
