Summary: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a debilitating disease with a negative impact on quality of life. Diagnoses and treatments are still unsatisfactory, calling for new approaches. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of IC/BPS research, promoting progress in diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. The complexity of IC/BPS and emerging evidence call for further studies to optimize management.

Summary: This study investigated the usefulness of urinary biomarkers in assessing bladder condition and histopathology in IC/BPS patients. The results show that urinary biomarker levels are associated with symptoms and pathological manifestations, helpful in identifying HIC and NHIC subtypes, but most biomarkers are not strongly correlated with specific bladder histopathological findings.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the expression levels of sensory receptors, inflammatory proteins, and pro-apoptotic proteins in the urothelium of non-Hunner's interstitial cystitis (NHIC) bladders of patients with different clinical and cystoscopic phenotypes. The study concluded that IC/BPS patients with frequency and bladder pain complaints have higher levels of urothelial sensory receptors, and inflammatory and pro-apoptotic proteins. The expression levels of these sensory receptors, inflammatory proteins, and pro-apoptotic proteins are not significantly different among IC/BPS bladders with different conditions.

Summary: This study investigates the role of corticotropin-releasing factor receptor type II (CRFR2) mechanisms in bladder hyperalgesia. The findings demonstrate the association between CRFR2-related mechanisms and bladder hypersensitivity, supporting the therapeutic value of these agents in the treatment of painful bladder disorders.

Summary: Through analyzing a sample of patients with chronic low-back pain, this study found that in the HiTOP model, the Somatoform spectrum fits better as a separate spectrum rather than a subfactor of Internalizing. Discriminant and convergent validity with an external criteria confirmed the distinctiveness of the Somatoform spectrum from the Internalizing spectrum within the HiTOP model.

Summary: This study used 16S rRNA sequencing and untargeted metabolomics techniques to analyze the urinary microbial and metabolite profiles of IC/BPS patients and healthy controls. The results showed differential genera and metabolites associated with the inflammatory response of IC/BPS, including Lactobacillus as a protective bacterium and Sphingomonas as a pathogenic factor. The metabolite theophylline may also play a role in downregulating the inflammatory response of IC/BPS.

Summary: The study found that the features of HLs in IC patients were not associated with subjective symptoms, but inflammatory changes in HLs were a predictive factor for IC recurrence and associated with frequent urgency episodes and smaller bladder capacity.

Summary: Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic bladder disorder characterized by suprapubic pain and discomfort during bladder filling, accompanied by lower urinary tract symptoms. The diagnosis of IC/BPS is still not standardized, but cystoscopy and bladder biopsy can determine the presence of ulcers. The pathophysiology of IC/BPS may involve chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, and other factors. Biomarkers in urine and serum specimens could be useful for the diagnosis of IC/BPS.

Summary: The study found that intravesical PRP injection is effective in relieving symptoms of IC/BPS patients, with slightly lower efficacy after a single high-dose PRP injection compared to four low-dose PRP injections. The addition of components and injection site did not significantly affect therapeutic outcomes.

Summary: Inflammatory conditions of the urinary bladder are associated with urothelial damage and loss of function. The purinergic P2X7 receptor plays a role in such inflammatory conditions and may be a new therapeutic target for bladder inflammation.

Summary: This study found that in patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), repeated intravesical instillations of Sapylin after botulinum toxin A (BoNT/A) injection can produce significantly better clinical outcomes than BoNT/A alone, with good safety.

Summary: Psoriasis is associated with poor sleep quality and higher risk for sleep disturbance, especially among patients with psoriatic arthritis, severe psoriasis, shorter duration of psoriasis, and younger age. Patients with psoriasis are also more likely to experience insomnia, restless legs syndrome (RLS), and depression.
