Summary: This comprehensive analysis shows that a large percentage of CAD loci can modulate gene expression in VSMCs and influence VSMC behavior. Several candidate causal genes identified are likely to be druggable and thus represent potential therapeutic targets.

Summary: This study assessed the features of vascular depression in patients undergoing coronary artery graft bypass (CABG) surgery. The study found that pre-CABG depression is associated with cognitive and functional impairment, but there was no evidence of an association with older age of onset and middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis.

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy of electroencephalography (EEG) in predicting treatment response in major depressive disorder. The results showed that EEG can accurately predict the response to antidepressant treatment, but further validation studies are needed to develop a clinical tool for guiding interventions in MDD.

Summary: This review examines the importance of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in coronary artery disease (CAD) research and highlights the vascular pathways as a new opportunity for CAD treatment. By studying the genetic loci, the potential role of these loci in the pathogenesis of CAD can be understood, leading to the development of novel therapeutic tools for cardiovascular disorders.

Summary: Depression has a high recurrence rate and unclear pathogenic mechanisms, with the inflammatory mechanism gaining more support. SSRIs and SNRIs decrease neuroinflammation through various mechanisms, showing an association with antidepressant action.

Summary: Early improvement in anxiety and depression during the first two weeks of treatment significantly predicts the eventual treatment outcomes for anxiety and depression. Baseline anxiety severity is a strong predictor of anxiety outcomes at weeks 2 and 8. The study suggests that focusing on early improvement in anxiety may be more beneficial in predicting treatment outcomes for anxiety depression.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of personality traits on the treatment response to antidepressants in patients with depression. The results showed that neuroticism had a significant impact on treatment outcomes. Depending on the degree of neuroticism, patients had different remission rates when using different antidepressant medications. Therefore, measuring personality traits at the beginning of treatment could help select more appropriate antidepressants and predict the time to remission.

Summary: This systematic literature review examines treatment interventions for coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with comorbid depression. The review found that antidepressant and/or psychotherapy did not significantly influence CAD outcomes in the overall population, and there was no difference between antidepressant use and aerobic exercises. Psychological and pharmacological interventions had a small effect on depression outcomes in CAD patients. Patient autonomy in treatment choice was associated with greater depression treatment satisfaction.

Summary: This study analyzed tissue-specific miRs derived from IMA samples from 192 CAD patients and identified 17 miRs significantly correlated with cardiovascular risk factors. Of particular interest, miR-5701 was positively correlated with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes, while miR-629-5p and miR-98-5p were significantly correlated with acute myocardial infarction. This first atlas of miR profiles in IMA samples from CAD patients may play an important role in improved risk assessment, mechanistic disease understanding, and local therapy of CAD.

Summary: This study found that there is a relationship between subjective fatigue levels and social support in individuals with coronary artery disease. Higher levels of social support were associated with lower fatigue levels in patients with depressive symptoms, while fatigue levels were significantly associated with reduced social support from family and friends in non-depressed patients.

Summary: This study is the first to specifically assess the effects of intravenous trehalose on atherogenesis in human subjects. Trehalose treatment was characterized by an optimal safety profile, but no significant reduction in arterial wall inflammation could be observed. This might be a consequence of the small sample size of this trial. Larger studies are needed to better assess the efficacy of this compound in this clinical context.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed 141 patients who underwent MIDCAB and found that the long-term clinical outcomes were satisfactory in terms of survival and freedom from MACCE. Factors such as age, cancer, and chronic renal insufficiency were identified as independent predictors affecting long-term survival. The MIDCAB procedure showed significant benefits in reducing hospital length of stay, blood transfusions, and rates of cardiac-related events compared to traditional bypass surgery.

Summary: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is a vascular disease with unclear pathophysiology, potentially associated with atherosclerosis. The prognostic role of CAE is controversial, but studies have shown a higher risk of cardiovascular events and mortality in these patients after intervention. There is no standardized approach for the treatment of CAE, as therapy needs to be tailored to the individual patient. Interventional treatment of CAE presents challenges, often complicated by complications such as thrombus embolization and stent malapposition. The optimal choice of antithrombotic therapy is still debated.

Summary: Women have a clinical advantage in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to men, but this advantage diminishes with aging. By their seventh decade, women have an equal risk of developing CVD as men of the same age. Various theories have been proposed to explain this gender difference, including hormonal and cardiovascular system differences. This review aims to review and discuss these different mechanisms.
