A quantitative western blot technique using TMB: Comparison with the conventional technique

The development of commercially available systems, including those for single cell analysis, is highlighted. The review also covers recent developments such as automation algorithms, different materials/chemistries, projection electrophoresis, and triBlots, as well as the potential of these systems for point-of-care devices in healthcare.

Use of the Western blot technique to identify the immunogenic proteins of Borrelia burgdorferi for developing a Lyme disease vaccine

Summary: This study aimed to identify common reactive antigens in mammalian sera involved in Bb infection, which may be useful for vaccine development. The results showed that different mammalian species had a strong immune response to the 41 kDa flagellin protein, indicating that a vaccine targeting this protein may be effective in preventing Lyme disease.

Core-shell SERS nanotags-based western blot

Summary: In this study, a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering-based Western blot (SERS-WB) was proposed for accurate quantitative detection of low-abundance proteins. SERS nanotags were used as quantitative labels of proteins, and the target protein on the membrane could be directly identified by colorimetric signal due to the aggregation effect of nanoparticles.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in cats from the metropolitan region of Guadalajara in western Mexico. The results showed a low prevalence of T. gondii infection in cats in this area, with age being a major risk factor.

Spreader-CDR system for efficient, reproducible, and frugal western blot

Summary: S-CDR and R-CDR devices, utilizing spreader-rod technology, offer significantly enhanced results compared to traditional batch incubation methods in western blotting. The devices not only improve signal strength and speed of development, but also provide benefits such as uniform antibody binding, reduced antibody usage, and the ability to recover results from mishandled membranes. The S-CDR device is easily adaptable to existing western blot protocols and ensures higher quality blots.

These findings provide novel insights into the function of PLC in the 20E signaling pathway in A. lucorum.

Suitability of GRK Antibodies for Individual Detection and Quantification of GRK Isoforms in Western Blots

Summary: G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) regulate G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) by phosphorylating the active receptors. In addition to their role in GPCRs, GRKs also regulate a variety of proteins by acting as scaffolding partners. By examining the specificity of commercially available antibodies, we established a cost-effective method for comparing protein levels obtained by Western blotting with different antibodies.

The Royal Armoury: Venomics and antivenomics of king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) from the Indian Western Ghats

Summary: This study aims to investigate the venom of the king cobra and compare it with the venom of the spectacled cobra. The findings suggest that the venom of the king cobra, although less complex, is equally potent as the venom of the spectacled cobra. Additionally, the existing antivenoms are ineffective in neutralizing the venom of the king cobra.

A Proteomics Study of the Subacute Toxicity of Rat Brain after Long- Term Exposure of Gelsemium elegans

Summary: Gelsemium elegans (G. elegans) has strong pharmacological effects and has the potential to be used as an alternative to laboratory synthesized drugs. However, its toxicity limits its application and development. This study investigated the long-term toxicity effects of G. elegans on the rat brain through proteomic analysis. The results showed that there were changes in differential abundance proteins, but no accumulative toxicity was observed. G. elegans has the potential to develop and utilize its pharmacological activity. However, further research is needed to determine if there is a relation between G. elegans exposure and hearing impairment.

Summary: Serodiagnosis of human strongyloidiasis is a sensitive and practical method, but it is limited by cross-reactivity with other helminth infections. The use of excretory-secretory products from Strongyloides infective larvae can improve the serodiagnosis. Proteomic analysis reveals the antigenic components in the excretory-secretory products that can be recognized by IgG antibodies from patients with strongyloidiasis.
