Summary: In this study, 2-(4-(iodomethyl)benzyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione was used as a protected amine-functionalized initiator for the cationic ring opening-polymerization (CROP) of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline. The polymerization was well-controlled and terminated with sodium azide. Subsequent deprotection allowed for attachment of targeting ligands to the polymer. The heterotelechelic PEtOx was then coupled to end-functionalized polylactide to form block copolymers for nanomedicine.

Summary: This study investigated the copolymerization of diene comonomers bearing boronic acid masked with 1,8-diaminonaphthalene (dan) with isoprene or butadiene, using a neodymium borohydride complex as a catalyst. The comonomers showed tolerance to excess modified methylaluminoxane (MMAO) and were applicable to a polymerization system using MMAO. However, the corresponding pinacol borate was highly reactive towards MMAO and did not incorporate into the obtained polymer. C-13 NMR analysis revealed that all the comonomers were located at the chain end of the hydrogenated copolymer. Further functionalization using the boron moiety at the polymer chain end was also investigated.

Summary: The study presents a method for the synthesis of silane-end-functionalized linear and star polymers through metal-free borates or borane mediated polymerization, with properties easily tunable by varying the type and concentration of hydrosilanes. H-1, Si-29, and H-1-Si-29 HMBC NMR, FT-IR, ESI-MS, and MALDI-TOF-MS analyses confirm the presence of silane-end-functional groups in these polymers, with hydrosilanes playing a dual role in the polymerization process.

Summary: The study demonstrates a label-free, enzymatic-free, potentiometric determination of fetuin using boronic acid-based SA-recognition chemistry on a gold electrode. The method shows a micro M-order sensitivity comparable to blood-collected specimens, suggesting potential for developing a cost-effective hemodiagnostic technology with ease of downsizing and mass production.

Summary: In this study, direct copolymerization of plant oil-based copolymer monomers with ethylene was achieved using a dienyl phosphoribosulfonyl palladium catalyst (PO-Pd). Addition, ureido-pyrimidinone (UPy) functionalization was performed using the hydroxyl group of the polymer. The incorporation of biomass groups effectively modifies the surface and mechanical properties of the copolymers, and these newly developed polymers are ideal tougheners for gutter oil due to their excellent tunability of the self-complementary hydrogen bonding network (UPy).

Summary: New macromolecular engineering approaches were developed to prepare star-like polypeptoids through ring-opening polymerization. Evaluation of their cytotoxicity on HepG2 human cell line and screening against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria identified several compounds with both good and selective antimicrobial activity.

Summary: Compared to conventional techniques, photoinitiated electron/energy transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (PET-RAFT) allows for better control over the polymerization of multiblock star copolymers, avoiding the generation of termination products. This technique is also tolerant to oxygen, enabling the automated synthesis of multiblock star copolymers at short block lengths, providing a useful approach for screening the effect of polymer composition on solution structure.

Summary: Blending nadimide end-capped polyether with UPER resin enhances cohesive energy and crosslinking, significantly improving fracture characteristics. Adding a small amount of nadimide end functional polyether increases toughness, but further addition has no effect on crosslink density.

Summary: In this study, we report the synthesis of a novel double hydrophilic star-shaped block copolymer and investigate its solution properties under different solution pH conditions. We find that even short stickers can enhance the aggregation tendency at low pH values, resulting in aggregate sizes beyond 1 μm.

Summary: We have developed a synthetic method for decorating the surface of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with polymers through postsynthetic modification. By reacting well-defined polymers with reversibly deactivated radical species at their chain end with vinyl-functionalized MOFs in the presence of a radical initiator, we can form a C-C bond between the polymer end and the functional group at the MOF ligand. We have successfully achieved four polymer@MOF composites through this method.

Summary: The living coordinative copolymerization of 1-alkenes with 4-aryl-1,6-heptadienes, both with and without a reversible chain transfer agent, allows for the production of functionalized polyolefins with various end-groups and functional groups. The non-conjugated diene comonomers can be easily obtained from a range of aryl carboxaldehyde precursors. These results provide a new platform for exploring functionalized polyolefins on a larger scale.

Summary: The study demonstrates the activation of molecular hydrogen by polyoxometalate (POM)-based heterogeneous compounds functionalized with Platinum particles. The synergism between a hydrogen spillover mechanism and electron-proton transfer by the POM enables the selective catalytic reduction of olefins and nitroarenes with high functional group tolerance.
