Summary: A 12-year-old female spayed dachshund developed respiratory distress following percutaneous ultrasound-guided ethanol ablation of a functional parathyroid tumor for primary hyperparathyroidism. The dog presented with hypocalcemia and laryngospasm, which were managed conservatively with supplemental oxygen, anxiolysis, and parenteral calcium administration. The clinical signs improved rapidly and were sustained, with no recurrence afterwards. This is the first report of laryngospasm following ethanol ablation of a parathyroid nodule in a dog that developed hypocalcemia.

Summary: Synthetic cannabinoids are a diverse group of novel psychoactive substances regulated by law, with potentially dangerous effects on children. Caregivers may not accurately report exposure history, leading to delays in diagnosis of synthetic cannabinoid toxicity in young children. Clinical findings should raise suspicion of synthetic cannabinoid toxicity even without a history of exposure.

Summary: This case report describes a 60-year-old patient who aspirated a total dental prosthesis into the postcricoid region. The patient's history, clinical findings, radiologic examinations, and surgical treatment are presented and compared with literature data. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a total dental prosthesis detected in the postcricoid region. It is noteworthy that despite causing mucosal abrasions in a wide area of the esophagus, the aspiration did not result in respiratory disorders such as laryngospasm and asphyxia.

Summary: A retrospective analysis was conducted on severe anaphylaxis cases recorded by the Allergy-Vigilance (R) Network (2002-2020) to evaluate the characteristics associated with survival, age, and allergens. The results showed that food was the main allergen for severe anaphylaxis in both children and adults, and young age, asthma history, and exercise were characteristic features of severe food anaphylaxis.

Summary: ALS is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons, with the SOD1 gene playing a significant role in its pathogenesis. The p.D90A mutation in the SOD1 gene is the most common worldwide, showing both autosomal and recessive inheritance in different populations. Genetic analysis can assist in diagnosing ALS, particularly in patients with insidious onset symptoms.

Summary: Prognosis of supraventricular tachycardias in neonates and infants is generally excellent, but initial management can be challenging. Summary: This case presents an unusual and fatal respiratory failure in a young woman, which is strongly associated with parathyroid carcinoma. Although initial symptoms appeared to be consistent with classical septic origin, autopsy and histopathological analyses revealed significant calcium redistribution abnormalities, leading to a pathological process driven by primary hyperparathyroidism.

Summary: In this case report, a 15-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with high-grade fever, vomiting, and vague abdominal pain. Despite being diagnosed with acute abdominal pain and undergoing emergency ileocecectomy, she unfortunately died the next day. Pathological examination revealed the presence of Enterobius vermicularis in the ileocecal junction, which was determined to be the cause of her death. This rare case highlights the importance for clinicians to consider Enterobius vermicularis infections as a potential cause of death in patients with undiagnosed acute abdominal pain.

Summary: The recreational and medicinal uses of cannabis are increasing worldwide. Edible formulations of cannabis have become popular, especially among the elderly, but they can be significantly more potent and have been associated with cardiovascular adverse effects. This case highlights the need for further research on the safety of oral cannabis with the increased access and popularity of edible cannabis formulations.
