Summary: This study described the characteristics of body composition among Chinese preschool children using air-displacement plethysmography (ADP). The study found that BMI and fat-free mass index (FFMI) increased with age, with a higher FFMI slope for boys than girls. The percentage of fat mass (FM%), fat mass index (FMI), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were negatively correlated with age for both sexes. The study concludes that ADP is applicable for estimating body composition among Chinese preschool children.

Summary: The body composition characteristics of preschool children with short stature were assessed in this study. It was found that the fat-free mass, including protein and bone mineral content, was lower in children with short stature compared to the control group. Monitoring the fat-free mass could help with early identification and intervention.

Summary: The study found that low skeletal muscle density in children with lymphoma or rhabdomyosarcoma may be associated with hematologic toxicities, while skeletal muscle index and height-adjusted total adipose tissue are not correlated with hematologic toxicities.

Summary: This study evaluated sleep patterns and differences in clinical features between young individuals with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The results showed that the school-age group had higher indexes related to OSA, lower oxygen saturation levels, and higher body mass index compared to the preschool group. Adenoid hypertrophy was more prevalent in the preschool group, while obesity or excessive weight was a predominant cause in the school-age group. The study also found significant alterations in sleep structure among the school-age group.

Summary: The study found that impairment of health-related quality of life reported by caregivers of Chilean toddlers aged 2-4 with autism spectrum disorder is associated with diagnostic age and severity of autism traits. Younger age at diagnosis and higher severity of autism traits are correlated with worse well-being perception by caregivers.

Summary: This study revealed that excess adiposity and abdominal obesity differed by gender in Polish preschool children. Parental obesity, screen time, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and birth weight were significant determinants of excess weight, excess adiposity, and abdominal obesity in children aged 5-6 years.

Summary: In men aged 70 years or more, both FMI and MMI were independent risk factors for diabetes mellitus, with higher FMI quartiles associated with increased risk and higher MMI quartiles associated with reduced risk. In women over 50 years, FMI was independently associated with diabetes mellitus, while there was no significant association between MMI and diabetes mellitus in women.

Summary: This study in Czech preschoolers found significant changes in body composition over the last few decades, with an increase in body fat and decrease in muscle and bone mass. Despite no changes in height and BMI, there is an indication of latent obesity development due to insufficient development of lean body mass compensated by increased fat mass.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations among behavioral and cognitive-affective features of stuttering in preschool-age children who stutter and whether multiple indices of stuttering can cluster participants together. The findings showed strong correlations between most indices of stuttering behaviors, but weaker relationships between behaviors and cognitive-affective reactions to stuttering. Additionally, the study identified two groups within this population, one with more prominent stuttering features and the other with less prominent features.

Summary: Most insects are poikilotherms and ectotherms, so the rise in global temperatures is affecting their physiology. This study looked at the effects of temperature and aging on the size and body composition of Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes. Warmer temperatures result in slightly smaller adult mosquitoes, while aging alters abdominal length and dry weight. Carbohydrate and lipid contents are mainly affected by aging, while protein content decreases with both rising temperature and aging.

Summary: The study aims to assess the impact of MetAge and body composition on male sexual and gonadal status, especially in men younger than 40 years old. The results showed that age and body composition parameters significantly affected the androgenic state. Erectile dysfunction in men younger than 40 years was associated with lower testosterone levels, older MetAge, and higher BMI and degree of obesity.
