How Stable are the Mg-Mg Bonds in Magnesium (I) Compounds toward Hydrogenation?

DF17 calculations show that the Mg(I)-Mg(I) bonded complexes should undergo rapid hydrogenation to form bridged dihydrido complexes. This phenomenon can be understood on the basis of conversion of conventional 2c-2e bonds into 3c-2e bonds that are stronger.
