Summary: This study investigates the chromatic variation of Proceratophrys cristiceps, a polymorphic species in Brazil, from a populational perspective. The results reveal six different chromotypes that vary among sex and ontogenetic classes. The study highlights the selective value of chromatic variation and the potential consequences for taxonomy.

Summary: The in-plane packing of gold, polystyrene, and silica spherical nanoparticle mixtures at a water-oil interface is investigated in situ by UV-vis reflection spectroscopy. The results show that the separation distance between gold nanoparticles and gold surface coverage increases with an increase in the content of non-plasmonic nanoparticles. Additionally, assemblies with intermediate non-plasmonic content exhibit a tighter packing of gold nanoparticles.

Summary: Hierarchical assemblies with diverse properties are fabricated using covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as building blocks, resulting in highly active photocatalytic systems. The multilayered structural states within the supramolecular systems demonstrate the importance of hierarchical assemblies in facilitating photocatalytic propagation and expanding the structural repertoire of supramolecular hybrids.

Summary: This article introduces a method of preparing broad-spectrum sunscreen by combining conventional UV absorbers with biocompatible natural products using nanotechnology. The molecular assembly of EGCG/ABA nanoparticles with good biocompatibility and antioxidant activity was successfully achieved. The sunscreen shows excellent UV protection and has the potential to promote the development of biosafe sunscreens.

Summary: DPPhs yield various hydrogen-bonding-stabilized pi-electronic anions upon deprotonation, and pi-electronic cations are introduced through ion-pair metathesis to form tightly bound pi-electronic ion pairs in solution, resulting in solid-state charge-by-charge assemblies with assembling modes modulated according to the geometries and electronic states of the positively charged constituents and substituents of the DPPh anions.

Summary: In this study, a novel chlorination-induced polyene cyclization method is proposed, utilizing HFIP-chloroiodane networks to mimic terpene cyclases. Various different alkenes were converted with high selectivities (up to d.r. > 95:5). The cyclization platform was also successfully extended to structurally challenging terpenes and terpenoid carbon frameworks.

Summary: A chiral supramolecular assembly with redox-induced changes in its chiroptical properties was synthesized using viologen-modified glutamide. The assembly showed an orange-colored solution with a visible absorption band at around 470 nm and electronic circular dichroism signals. Chemical reduction resulted in a color change to blueish violet and a sign change of the CD signal. Oxidation could restore the chiroptical behavior of the assembly.

Summary: The rapid transport of biological material to and from the cell nucleus is regulated by the nuclear pore complex (NPC), with a core permeability barrier consisting of FG Nups. Nuclear transport receptors (NTRs) facilitate transport by partitioning in the FG Nup assembly and make up a significant portion of proteins in the NPC barrier. Negative cooperativity was observed in the binding behavior of well-characterized NTRs, NTF2 and Imp-beta, to different planar assemblies of FG Nups, suggesting potential demixed phases of NTRs within the FG Nup assembly that could impact inter-NTR competition and separate transport pathways.

Summary: Hydrophobins self-assemble into coatings that can change the solution and surface behavior of substrates, but only a subset of these coatings are resistant to hot detergent treatment. The surface properties of substrates can influence the molecular structures and physiochemical properties of hydrophobin and other functional amyloids. This opens up new opportunities for the use of hydrophobins in applications with varying chemical and physical properties.

Summary: In this study, 1,5-naphthalene disulfonic acid (H2NDS) was used as a structure-directing agent to construct cucurbit[5]uril-based supramolecular assemblies. Four novel assemblies were obtained by adding alkali metal cations to the Q[5]-H2NDS system. These assemblies exhibited similar structures and the main difference was the coordination modes of the metal cations. Compound 2 showed high selectivity in detecting NFX molecules and could capture AR, CV, and MB from aqueous media.

Summary: The concept of hierarchical oriented MOFs has been proposed and successfully applied to create assemblies with high voltage and electricity output through water-evaporation induced electricity generation. The research may offer valuable theoretical guidance for exploring self-assembly of MOFs superstructures and water-evaporation induced electricity generation.
