Summary: The effects of aging on the reproductive health of men and the consequences for their offspring are being recognized. Paternal age is correlated with genetic disorders in children. This study analyzed gene expression in round spermatids of young and aged rats and found increased expression of genes involved in sperm functions, as well as dysregulated genes related to germ cell epigenetic marks and communication. These findings contribute to understanding the genetic origin of fertility and epigenetic effects with advanced paternal aging.

Summary: Identifying suitable animal models and standardizing preclinical methods are crucial for developing vaccines against Francisella tularensis. Non-human primates are important animal models for evaluating vaccine efficacy, while Fischer 344 rats are valuable for initial immune response studies and vaccine screening. This study compared three Fischer rat substrains and confirmed their suitability as models for studying Francisella infection and immunity.

Summary: This study examined circadian rhythms and hippocampal-dependent memory in female Fischer brown Norway rats. The rats exposed to the unentrainable T21 light-dark cycle showed no impairment in retention of the memory acquired in the Morris water task. Two months later, these rats had entrained to a 12:12 light-dark cycle, suggesting successful adaptation. The T21 paradigm induced free-running circadian rhythms in female Fischer brown Norway rats, with delayed entrainment, elongated period, and decreased activity during the dark phase.

Summary: Interleukin-18 (IL-18) can activate NK cells and induce IFN-gamma production. IL-18BP can inhibit IL-18 binding and counteract its biological action. Imbalance in IL-18/IL-18BP expression during transplantation promotes NK cell activation and rejection. Gene therapy with IL-18BP overexpression can alleviate rejection and improve graft survival.

Summary: The study suggests that age- and disease-related gut dysbiosis can be improved through the use of time-restricted feeding (TRF) with both standard diets and ketogenic diets (KD).

Summary: Glaucoma is often caused by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) due to obstruction of aqueous humor outflow within the trabecular meshwork (TM). In vitro models and rodent animal models have been used to study IOP-responsive genes, but they do not fully mimic the in vivo environment. This report presents a new technique for rat TM microdissection, enabling successful removal of the TM and minimizing contamination from other tissues.

Summary: Through a comprehensive longitudinal examination of morphometric changes in 73 brain regions in F344 rats during normative aging, vulnerability to aging was identified within certain brain regions, with sex differences particularly notable in specific areas such as the caudoputamen, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens, and thalamus.

Summary: This study compared the preventive effect of allergen-specific immunotherapy through different routes of peanut allergen delivery in rats. Results showed that high dose oral and sublingual administration, as well as high and medium dose intragastric administration, prevented peanut allergy. Therefore, the route of allergen delivery plays a significant role in preventing peanut allergy.

Summary: The study found that exposure to ozone in elderly rats leads to an increase in oxidative stress in certain brain regions and has a negative impact on horizontal motor activity. Rats of different age groups respond differently to ozone, with younger rats showing more pronounced effects, especially in terms of horizontal motor activity.

Summary: The study revealed a close relationship between S100A8/A9 and inflammatory-related factors in mild food allergies, successfully constructing an IgE-mediated food allergy model. In the experimental group, levels of S100A8/A9, TLR4, TNF-alpha, NF-kappa B, IL-1 beta, and IL-6 were significantly higher compared to the control group.

Summary: By using magnetic resonance spectroscopy, it is possible to quantify brain metabolites and macromolecules in aging individuals, revealing age- and sex-related neurochemical changes. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the neurobiological processes associated with healthy aging, critical for identifying and managing pathological aging trajectories accurately.

Summary: Spontaneous primary pleural mesotheliomas are rarely reported in Fischer 344 (F344) or other rat strains. This retrospective study found a higher incidence in F344 rats and observed only epithelioid and biphasic histologic subtypes.
