The nuclear structure of the odd-mass Zn-69 and Zn-71 isotopes, with one hole or one particle outside the N = 40 subshell closure, has been investigated by measuring the lifetime of excited states using the recoil distance Doppler-shift method. The nuclei of interest were produced in a deep-inelastic reaction in inverse kinematics with a U-238 beam impinging on a Zn-70 target. Single-particle and collective states were found to coexist at low energy in Zn-69 and Zn-71.

Summary: A novel Monte Carlo technique has been developed to determine lifetimes of excited states in low-energy heavy-ion binary reactions, with validation in neutron-rich nuclei. The method relies on detailed analysis of Doppler-broadened gamma-ray lineshapes and utilizes gamma-tracking arrays for unprecedented position resolution.

Pulse-shape calculations and applications using the AGATAGeFEM software package

J. Ljungvall

Summary: AGATAGeFEM software package is used for modeling segmented High-Purity Segmented Germanium detectors, discussing geometry implementation choices, electric field calculations, and charge-carrier velocity models. The impact of noise and crosstalk on position resolution is investigated, showing that crosstalk is of minor importance in AGATA detectors. The sensitivity of pulse shapes to parameters in pulse-shape calculations is determined, with improvements seen in the new data base compared to the standard AGATA data base.

A. Gottardo, G. Andreetta, R. Lombardi

Summary: The capability of CLYC-7 scintillators to detect and distinguish γ-ray radiation and neutrons in a wide energy range has been studied. Different Pulse-Shape Analysis techniques were used to achieve this distinction with excellent results. A particular PSA algorithm was investigated to perform background rejection for neutron detection, resulting in interesting outcomes at different energy ranges.

Overview of Radon Flux Characteristics, Measurements, Models and Its Potential Use for the Estimation of Radon Priority Areas

Igor Celikovic, Gordana Pantelic, Ivana Vukanac, Jelena Krneta Nikolic, Milos Zivanovic, Giorgia Cinelli, Valeria Gruber, Sebastian Baumann, Giancarlo Ciotoli, Luis Santiago Quindos Poncela, Daniel Rabago

Summary: This literature review investigates the use of radon flux for the delineation of radon priority areas (RPA). Factors influencing radon flux were identified, but quantifying their contribution to measurement remains a challenge. Different methods and devices were used for radon flux determination, resulting in possible inconsistencies. Only two countries have conducted national surveys on outdoor radon, which are smaller in scale compared to indoor radon surveys. Positive correlation between radon flux and radon quantities supports the use of radon flux as an input parameter for RPA estimation. Up-to-date modelled radon flux maps have excellent spatial resolution and can be used for RPA estimation and delineation.

Summary: Coulomb excitation of 102Ru was performed using 12C and 16O ions, analyzing the populations of various states as a function of scattering angle. The results were compared with calculations, showing discrepancies in some states' populations compared to previous measurements. The weakly populated 2+3 state and its transition probability to the 0+2 state were also observed and calculated. The results were compared with theoretical calculations using the Gogny-D1S interaction.

Summary: The structure of the unbound F-15 nucleus was investigated by using radioactive O-14 beam and analyzing the corresponding reactions. This study confirmed the previously observed levels and discovered new resonances in F-15 nucleus. The analysis suggested that the wave functions of these resonances may be collectivized by coupling to nearby decay channels.

ESTIMATION OF RADIOLOGICAL IMPACT ON RESIDENTS DUE TO HOUSEHOLD STORAGE OF COAL USED FOR HEATING IN SERBIA

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the potential radiological risk from different types of coals used for domestic heating in Serbia by measuring the activity concentration of radionuclides and radon exhalation rate. The highest radon mass exhalation rate was found in lignite coal. The results suggest that coal stored in the basement could contribute significantly to indoor radon concentration, but overall, the coal used in Serbia does not pose a significant radiation hazard.

Summary: In this study, low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N = Z + 1 nucleus Tc-87 were investigated using the fusion-evaporation reaction. A level scheme was established, showing a rotational behavior with a sharp backbending. The study suggests a decrease in alignment frequency and an increase in alignment sharpness in the odd-mass isotonic chains around N = 44 due to enhanced isoscalar neutron-proton interactions in odd-mass nuclei near the N = Z line.
