Summary: This study investigated the generic and condition-specific quality of life (QoL) of Italian children and adolescents with congenital heart disease (CHD) and their parents. The results showed that patients and parents reported a good level of QoL. Children aged 5-7 years old reported lower QoL levels. The agreement and disagreement between patients and parents varied depending on the patients' age.

Summary: This study evaluated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with fractures of the distal forearm and found that the overall mid- and long-term HRQoL was good. Children with complete metaphyseal fractures reported slightly better HRQoL compared to patients with buckle fractures or Salter-Harris II fractures, but these differences were not statistically significant nor clinically relevant.

Summary: This scoping review looked at Health-related Quality of Life in children and adolescents with congenital hyperinsulinism, revealing heterogeneous study designs and inconsistent results. It is recommended to use generic and condition-specific instruments in larger samples for longitudinal observation to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of the disease on patients' quality of life.

Summary: This multi-center longitudinal cohort study aimed to assess the trajectories of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) over time. The results showed that the HRQoL scores differed between children with different CKD stages, and the transition from dialysis to transplantation was significantly associated with the improvement in HRQoL. Children with CKD stage 1-5 and transplant recipients at baseline had stable HRQoL over time.

Summary: This study investigates the correlation between the development of bronchiectasis after lung resection surgery and the health-related quality of life of patients. The study found that patients with bronchiectasis had poorer overall health status, increased respiratory symptoms, lower physical activity levels, lower quality of life scores, and experienced more severe anxiety symptoms. They also perceived higher levels of stress. Further research is needed to understand the contradictory correlations with stress and physical functioning.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of parental psychological factors on the health-related quality of life (HrQoL) of pediatric patients with inherited metabolic diseases. The results showed that high caregiver burden and perceived disease severity significantly predicted lower HrQoL for both patients and their parents. Female patients reported lower self-rated HrQoL. Caregiver burden mediated the relationship between perceived disease severity and proxy-rated HrQoL by parents.

Summary: This study retrospectively examines the prevalence and patterns of sexualized behaviors (SB) among juvenile sexual offenders (JSO) before their sexual offenses. Three SB profiles were identified: low/no SB, preoccupied SB, and dysregulated SB. The preoccupied and dysregulated SB groups had higher rates of psychiatric disorders, but none of them reoffended sexually within one year after conviction. Overall, the study suggests that SB is not a reliable indicator of high risk for persistent sexual offending among JSO.

Summary: This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) on the health-related quality of life (HRQL) of infants from NICU hospitalization to one year post-discharge. The study found that lower HRQL during NICU stay was associated with earlier gestational age, postnatal corticosteroid usage, outborn status, and gastrostomy tube placement. Lower HRQL at 3 and 12 months post-discharge was associated with readmissions, home oxygen use, parent-reported difficulty breathing, lower developmental scores, and not playing with other children. Most parents reported similar or improved HRQL after discharge, but parents of infants with respiratory symptoms experienced less improvement. Efforts to improve parent HRQL should focus on respiratory symptoms and social isolation.

Summary: This study aims to determine if children with elbow flexion contracture (EFC) caused by brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) are more likely to develop shoulder contracture and undergo surgical treatment. A retrospective review was conducted on children under 2 years old with BPBI who presented to a single children's hospital. The results showed that patients with EFC had reduced shoulder range of motion and higher odds of shoulder contracture and surgical treatment. Prompt referral to a BPBI specialty clinic is recommended for evaluation and potential surgery.
