Summary: Mycoplasma genitalium is a newly emerged sexually transmitted disease pathogen that is an independent risk factor for female cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease. The clinical symptoms caused by M. genitalium infection are mild and easily ignored. If left untreated, M. genitalium can grow along the reproductive tract and cause salpingitis, leading to infertility and ectopic pregnancy. Additionally, M. genitalium infection in late pregnancy can increase the incidence of preterm birth.

Summary: This study developed a ddPCR assay for the quantification of M. genitalium, and compared its performance with an established qPCR method. The results showed that ddPCR had a strong correlation with both DNA standards and qPCR quantitation for different templates. ddPCR reliably detected template in a range from 10^4 copies per reaction and demonstrated precise and reproducible quantitation of M. genitalium with a variety of templates.

Summary: Preconception Mycoplasma genitalium-infection was associated with reduced fecundability, although the association may depend on concurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV).

Summary: This study isolated six strictly anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria representing three novel species from the female reproductive tract, which belong to the genus Megasphaera. These bacteria are associated with diseases related to vaginal microbiota imbalances.

Summary: The accuracy of the LightMix (R) Modular Mycoplasma Macrolide and LightMix (R) Modular parC Fluoroquinolone Resistance assays (TIB Molbiol) was evaluated in this study. The results showed high agreement with the reference assay and demonstrated the ability to detect the presence of Mycoplasma genitalium and resistance to macrolide and fluoroquinolone.

Summary: This study aims to understand the prevalence and risk factors of M. genitalium and C. trachomatis in women with lower reproductive tract infections in China. The results showed that women with lower genital dysbiosis are more likely to be infected with C. trachomatis and M. genitalium. Attention should be paid to M. genitalium infection in young women with abnormal vaginal microecology or having childbearing needs.

Summary: The study revealed significant differences in Lactobacillus species between patients with provoked vulvodynia and the control group. Lactobacillus gasseri was less predominant in the former, while Lactobacillus iners was more common. The colony morphology of the vaginal swab sample also differed between the two groups.

Summary: The prevalence of M. genitalium infection in females aged <21 years is comparable to chlamydia, indicating the need for testing and treatment in symptomatic individuals.

Summary: In this study, researchers found that levels of genital tract cytokines were not associated with Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) infection. However, C. trachomatis infection, bisexual behavior, self-reported Black race, and genitourinary symptoms were associated with an increased likelihood of MG infection.

Summary: Social isolation is a significant risk factor for mood disorders in adolescents. This study investigated the therapeutic effects of resveratrol (RSV) on behavioral abnormalities induced by social isolation. The results showed that RSV improved anxiety-like behavior, social dysfunction, and mitochondrial dysfunction in the nucleus accumbens. RSV also modulated spine plasticity and mitochondrial function, suggesting its therapeutic potential for mood disorders.

Summary: This study found that early life stress affects adult alcohol intake, with a more pronounced effect on females. The results support the clinical observation that stress-vulnerable populations are more likely to self-medicate with alcohol and suggest that understanding the underlying mechanism can lead to tailored pharmacotherapeutics to reduce punishment-resistant drinking and relapse.

Summary: Social isolation during the juvenile and adolescent stages can have long-term consequences for behavioral and neural development. Most research has focused on males, with few studies including both sexes. The study found that peri-adolescent social isolation can affect social preference, anxiety-like behavior, and vasopressin neural circuitry in both male and female rats.

Summary: This study identified a 1% prevalence of M. genitalium infection among Nigerian female students, with high numbers of sexual partners, previous STIs, and irregular condom use being significantly associated with the infection. However, there was a lack of knowledge about M. genitalium infection among the students.
